REMOVAL & INSTALLATION FC Series

  1. Remove the door glass.
  2.  
  3. Remove the three screws holding the linkage assembly to the door panel.
  4.  
  5. Lower the linkage inside the door and unhook the lock assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the three screws which hold the inside lock assembly to the rear edge of the door.
  8.  
  9. Remove the inside lock assembly by working the striker through the rectangular hole in the rear edge of the door and lowering the lock assembly to the opening in the inside door panel.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  12.  

The lock cylinder can be removed with the door unlocked and the key inserted in the vertical position, by pull outward on the lock retainer.

Jeepster/Commando

  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. With the door open, remove the Phillips screw and starwasher retaining the outside door handle.
  4.  
  5. Hold the door and pull the handle forward and out of the door.
  6.  
  7. From inside the door, remove the lock cylinder retaining clip and push the cylinder out of the door.
  8.  
  9. Remove the access panel from the door frame.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lock pushbutton.
  12.  
  13. With the door glass raised, remove the clip attaching the lock linkage to the control handle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the screws attaching the lock assembly to the door.
  16.  
  17. Push the lock assembly into the door.
  18.  
  19. Lower the lock assembly until it can be pulled through the access panel opening.
  20.  
  21. Remove the clip and control rod from the lock assembly.
  22.  
  23. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  24.  

1962-69 Wagoneer and J-Series Truck

FRONT DOOR
  1. Remove the door panel.
  2.  
  3. With the door open, remove the two Phillips screws and starwashers retaining the outside door handle.
  4.  
  5. Hold the door and pull the handle forward and out of the door.
  6.  
  7. From inside the door, remove the lock cylinder retaining clip and push the cylinder and square extension rod out of the door.
  8.  
  9. Remove the screws from the lock linkage control, push the control unit into the door cavity and lower it to the door bottom. Remove it through an access hole.
  10.  
  11. Remove the screws holding the door latch mechanism to the rear edge of the door. Push the door latch into the door and turn it 90º to free it from the lock lever rod.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  14.  

REAR DOOR
  1. Remove the door trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lock lever knob.
  4.  
  5. Remove the two screws holding the door lock control arm to the door panel. One lock lever rod can now be removed.
  6.  
  7. Remove the three lock attaching screws and disengage the linkage control arm.
  8.  
  9. Turn the lock 90º. The other lock lever rod and the bellcrank can now be removed.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure that the raised tab on the bellcrank pivot is positioned in the hole above the attaching hole. When attaching the linkage control arm to the lock assembly, check for positive engagement of the spring loaded washers to the arm, and be sure that the linkage control arm is installed between the inner door panel and the window regulator control arm.

LOCK CYLINDER

  1. Remove the rubber sealer along the rear edge of the door to expose the lock cylinder retainer.
  2.  
  3. Remove the retainer with a small prybar.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lock cylinder and extension rod from the outside of the door.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  

LATCH AND CONTROL LINKAGE
  1. Remove the door trim panel and water shield.
  2.  
  3. Remove the lock cylinder.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolts from the control assembly. Push it into the door and lower it to the bottom.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the control arm from the door latch and remove the control assembly through the access hole in the bottom of the door.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts attaching the door latch to the door panel. Push the latch in and turn it 90º to free it from the lock lever rod. Remove it through the lower access hole.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal.
