Instrument Cluster

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION FC Series



  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2.  
  3. Remove the seven steering column-to-instrument panel skirt screws. Remove the skirt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the four screws securing the top front edge of the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the screw securing the right front flange of the instrument panel lower right extension.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the right-hand nut on the steering column clamp. If the truck has a radio mounted in the instrument panel, remove the radio control knobs and remove the two mounting screws from the top of the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Lift the instrument panel just enough to allow cluster removal.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the speedometer cable and the wires from the back of the cluster. Snap out the bulbs.
  14.  
  15. Remove the four stud nuts attaching the cluster to the instrument panel and lift out the cluster.
  16.  
  17. Installation is the reverse of removal.

1962-70 Wagoneer, J-Series Truck and Jeepster/Commando

  1. Disconnect the speedometer cable and all electrical leads from the rear of the instrument cluster.
  2.  
  3. Compress the retainer springs and slide the instrument cluster forward from the dash panel.
  4.  
  5. Use care in removing the glass frame which is held to the instrument cluster case by clips. Pry up the clips and carefully pry the frame off the case.
  6.  
  7. To remove the fuel gauge, temperature gauge or speedometer, remove the locknuts and remove these units from the front.
  8.  
  9. Install the instrument cluster in the reverse order of removal.
  10.  

1971-74 Wagoneer, Cherokee and J-Series Truck

  1. Remove the windshield and the windshield weatherstrip to expose the crash pad retaining screws at the base of the windshield.
  2.  
  3. Remove the exposed crash pad retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Remove the instrument cluster and ashtray.
  6.  
  7. Install the instrument cluster in the reverse order of removal.
  8.  

1971-73 Jeepster/Commando

  1. Disconnect the speedometer cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the single-point wiring harness connector.
  4.  
  5. Compress the retaining springs and slide the cluster forward from the dash.
  6.  
  7. Pry up the cluster glass frame clips and remove the glass. The gauges and lights can now be removed from the cluster.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  10.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the speedometer cable.
  4.  
  5. Cover the steering column.
  6.  
  7. Remove the cluster attaching screws and tilt the top toward the interior of the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Mark the electrical connectors and hoses, disconnect them and the blend door air cable.
  10.  
  11. Remove the cluster.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  14.
