Cherokee/Wagoneer and Comanche

See Figures 1 and 2

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. On trucks with the 2.8L engine, disconnect the right engine mount and raise the engine so that the rear bolt will clear the exhaust pipe.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheels.
  6.

  1. Remove the control arm-to-axle bolt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the control arm-to-frame bolt and remove the arm.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Install the replacement control arm and all nuts and bolts finger-tight.
  2.  
  3. Install the wheels.
  4.  
  5. On 2.8L engines, connect the right engine mount.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  

It is important to have the front springs at their normal ride height when the upper control arm attaching nuts are tightened. Vehicle ride comfort could be adversely affected.

  1. Tighten the control arm bolts to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm) at the axle; 66 ft. lbs. (89 Nm) at the frame.

Grand Cherokee/Grand Wagoneer

See Figure 3

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper control arm-to-axle bracket nut and bolt.
  4.

  1. Remove the upper control arm-to-frame nut and bolt.
  2.  
  3. Remove the arm.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Install the upper control arm and tighten the bolts and nuts finger-tight.
  2.  
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Tighten the upper control arm bolts to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  6.
