  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the air inlet tube from the throttle body.
  4.  
  5. Tag and disconnect the wiring and hoses from the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Tag and disconnect all the control cables.
  8.  
  9. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the throttle body. Discard the gasket.
  10.  

To install:
  1. Install the new gasket, throttle body and mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts as follows;

    On pre-1991 models; 23 ft. lbs. (31 Nm)
     
    On 1991-1995 models; 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm)
     
    On the 1996-98 Grand Cherokee V-8 engines; 200 inch lbs. (23 Nm)
     
    On the 1996-98 Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine; 100 inch lbs. (11 Nm)
     
    On the 1996-98 Cherokee; 100 inch lbs. (11 Nm)

  3. Engage the control cables.
  4.  
  5. Engage the wiring and hoses to the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Engage the air inlet tube to the throttle body and connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the mounting bolts to 23 ft. Ibs. (31 Nm) pre-1991 models and 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm) 1991-98 models.

  11. If equipped with an automatic transmission, the throttle valve cable MUST be adjusted! See Section 7.
