REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



2.5L engine
1987-90 VEHICLES

On 1987-90 vehicles, the coil is an integral part of the Ignition Control Module (ICM), mounted to the left of the battery on the firewall. Please refer to Ignition Module replacement which follows.

1991-95 VEHICLES

  1. Disconnect the ignition coil secondary cable from the ignition coil.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the engine harness connector to the coil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ignition coil mounting bolts and remove the coil.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  

4.0L Engine

See Figure 2

  1. Disconnect the ignition coil secondary cable from the ignition coil.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the engine harness connector to the coil.
  4.  
  5. Remove the ignition coil mounting bolts and remove the coil.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  8.  

4.2L Engine

  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the two small and one large wire from the coil.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the condenser connector from the coil, if equipped.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt and remove the coil.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal.
  10.
