Trouble Code: P0140

HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) No Activity Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running in closed loop at cruise speed at over 3 mph for more than 2 minutes, and the PCM detected the HO2S signal stroke rationality was more than the threshold value (0.250 volt) during the Oxygen Sensor Monitor test.

Possible Causes:



HO2S signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
HO2S has deteriorated, is contaminated or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0141

HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Heater Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running and PCM detected the HO2S heater current was more than 2 amps, or it was less than 0.25 amps.

Possible Causes:



HO2S power feed circuit from the Main Relay is open
 
HO2S heater control circuit is open
 
HO2S heater element has high resistance, is shorted or open
 
HO2S heater is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0151

HO2S Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running in closed loop at a speed over 3 mph, and the PCM detected the average ratio between the HO2S Actual and maximum allowed frequency during 100 Lambda cycles was more than the Threshold value (e.g., 0.66 Hz) during the test.

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Short to ground in harness
 
Faulty PCM
 
HO2S has deteriorated, is contaminated or has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0152

HO2S-21 (Bank 2 Sensor 1) Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running in closed loop at a speed over 3 mph for more than 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the HO2S signal circuit.

Possible Causes:



HO2S signal circuit open or shorted to ground
 
HO2S signal circuit is shorted to VREF or to system power (B+)
 
HO2S is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0153

HO2S-21 (Bank 2 Sensor 1) Slow Response

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0155 not set, engine started, engine running at idle speed in closed loop, and PCM detected the HO2S-12 response time to switch from rich-to-lean or from lean-to-rich was over one second.

Possible Causes:



HO2S signal circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
HO2S element is contaminated or it has failed
 
HO2S heater is damaged or has failed
 
Intake air leaks, exhaust manifold leaks or PCV system leaks
 
MAF sensor out of calibration (it may be dirty or contaminated)
 

Trouble Code: P0154

HO2S-21 (Bank 2 Sensor 1) No Activity Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running in closed loop at a speed over 3 mph for more than 2 minutes, and the PCM detected the HO2S signal stroke rationality was more than the threshold value (0.250 volt) during the Oxygen Sensor Monitor test.

HO2S-22 (Bank 2 Sensor 2) Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running in closed loop at a speed over 3 mph for more than 2 minutes, and the PCM detected an unexpected low voltage condition on the HO2S-22 circuit during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



HO2S signal circuit open between the HO2S and the PCM
 
HO2S signal circuit shorted to ground between HO2S and PCM
 
HO2S is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0157

HO2S Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 2)

Trouble Code Conditions: The signal voltage of the front or rear sensor changes the rear circuit voltage specification when air fuel ratio is rich, a DTC is set. Out of range low failure (ground short open circuit).

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Short to ground in HO2S circuit
 
Faulty HO2S
 
Faulty PCM
 

Trouble Code: P0158

HO2S Circuit High Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 2)

Trouble Code Conditions: The signal voltage is higher than 1.2 volts after open in circuit. Out of range high failure.

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Short to battery in HO2S circuit
 
Faulty HO2S
 
Faulty PCM
 

Trouble Code: P0159

HO2S-22 (Bank 2 Sensor 2) Slow Response

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running in closed loop at a speed over 3 mph for more than 2 minutes, and the PCM detected the average ratio between the HO2S Actual and maximum allowed frequency during 100 Lambda cycles was more than the Threshold value (e.g., 0.66 Hz) during the Oxygen Sensor Monitor test.

Possible Causes:



Exhaust leak present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
Front HO2S failed, or front & rear HO2S connections reversed
 
HO2S has deteriorated, is contaminated or has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0160

HO2S-22 (Bank 2 Sensor 2) Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running in closed loop at a speed over 3 mph, and the PCM detected an unexpected high voltage condition on the HO2S circuit during the CCM test.

Possible Causes:



HO2S signal circuit is shorted to VREF or to the Heater power
 
HO2S signal circuit is shorted to system power (B+)
 
HO2S is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0161

HO2S-22 (Bank 2 Sensor 2) Heater Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running and PCM detected the HO2S heater current was more than 2 amps, or it was less than 0.25 amps.

Possible Causes:



HO2S power feed circuit from the Main Relay is open
 
HO2S heater control circuit is open
 
HO2S heater element has high resistance, is shorted or open
 
HO2S heater is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0170

Fuel System Too Rich or Too Lean (Bank 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0171and P0172 not set, engine running in closed loop for over 2 minutes, and the PCM detected the amount of rich or lean Fuel Trim correction exceeded the Threshold maximum.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
Air being drawn in from leaks in engine gaskets or other seals
 
Incorrect fuel pressure, or one or more fuel injectors has failed
 
Front HO2S element is contaminated or has failed
 
A "fuel control" sensor is out of calibration (BARO, ECT or IAT)
 

Trouble Code: P0171

Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running in closed loop at a speed of over 5 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the Lambda correction value exceeded the "high" Threshold limit, condition met for 200 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in intake manifold, exhaust pipes or exhaust manifold
 
One or more injectors restricted or pressure regulator has failed
 
Air is being drawn in from leaks in gaskets or other seals
 
O2S element is deteriorated or has failed
 
A "fuel control" sensor is out of calibration (ECT, IAT or MAP)
 

Trouble Code: P0172

Fuel System Too Rich (Bank 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running in closed loop at a speed of over 5 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the Lambda correction value exceeded the "low" Threshold limit, condition met for 240 seconds.

Possible Causes:



One or more injectors leaking or pressure regulator is leaking
 
O2S element is deteriorated or has failed
 
EVAP vapor recovery system has failed (canister full of fuel)
 
Base engine fault (i.e., cam timing incorrect, engine oil too high
 
A "fuel control" sensor is out of calibration (ECT, IAT or MAP)
 

Trouble Code: P0174

Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 2)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running in closed loop at a speed of over 5 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the Lambda correction value exceeded the "high" Threshold limit, condition met for 200 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in intake manifold, exhaust pipes or exhaust manifold
 
One or more injectors restricted or pressure regulator has failed
 
Air is being drawn in from leaks in gaskets or other seals
 
O2S element is deteriorated or has failed
 
A "fuel control" sensor is out of calibration (ECT, IAT or MAP)
 

Trouble Code: P0175

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running in closed loop at a speed of over 5 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the Lambda correction value exceeded the "low" Threshold limit, condition met for 240 seconds.

One or more injectors leaking or pressure regulator is leaking
 
O2S element is deteriorated or has failed

Trouble Code: P0181

Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: If the voltage difference between fuel tank temperature and engine coolant temperature at starting is greater than threshold value (above 59 degree F), a fault code exists. Rationality check. Engine coolant 14 to 122 degrees F.

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Faulty fuel temperature sensor
 
Faulty PCM
 

Trouble Code: P0182

Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: If the sensor signal is less than 0.1 volt after starting, a fault code exists. Output voltage (VFTS) is monitored.

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Short to ground in fuel temperature sensor circuit
 
Faulty fuel temperature sensor
 
Faulty PCM
 

Trouble Code: P0183

Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: If the sensor signal is above 4.6 volts after starting, a fault code exists. Output voltage (VFTS) is monitored.

Possible Causes:



Poor connection
 
Open in fuel temperature sensor circuit
 
Faulty fuel temperature sensor
 
Faulty PCM

Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running and the PCM detected the identified fuel injector control circuit signal was more than the upper limit, or that it was less than the lower limit, or that no control signal was present.

Possible Causes:



Main relay power supply circuit to the injector is open
 
Fuel injector 1 control circuit is open or shorted to ground
 
Fuel injector 1 is damaged or has failed
 
Injector "driver" circuit in the PCM is damaged or has failed

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running and the PCM detected the identified fuel injector control circuit signal was more than the upper limit, or that it was less than the lower limit, or that no control signal was present.

Fuel injector 2 control circuit is open or shorted to ground

Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Low Input

Trouble Code Conditions: The DTC is recorded if the output voltage of the TPS 1 is lower than threshold value (Vtps1 less than or equal to 0.2 volt). TPS 1 low input.

Poor connection
 
Open or short to ground in TPS circuit

Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: The DTC is recorded if the output voltage of the TPS 1 higher than threshold value (Vtps1 greater than or equal to 4.85 volts, load value, EV less than 70 percent) when TPS 2 (Vtps2 less than or equal to 2.5 volts) is normal. TPS 1 high input.

Fuel Injector 4 Circuit High Input

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running and the PCM detected the Injector 4 signal was in a high signal state (12 volts) with the injector commanded off in the test.

Fuel injector 4 control circuit is shorted to system power (B+)
 
Fuel injector 4 is damaged or has failed
 
Injector 4 "driver" circuit in the PCM is damaged or has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0300

Random Cylinder Misfire Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime 3 seconds, engine speed change under 1200 rpm, and the PCM detected a random misfire condition in more than one cylinder during the 200 revolution or the 1000 revolution test range. Note: If the misfire is severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!

Possible Causes:



Vehicle driven under low fuel condition (less than 1/8 of a tank)
 
CKP or CMP sensor signal erratic or out of phase
 
Base engine problem affecting two or more engine cylinders
 
Ignition system problem affecting two or more engine cylinders
 

Trouble Code: P0301

Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime 3 seconds, engine speed change under 1200 rpm, and the PCM detected a misfire condition present in one cylinder during the 200 (Catalyst) or 1000 revolution (Emission) test range. Note: If the misfire is severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!

Possible Causes:



Fuel metering (fuel injector dirty) problem affecting Cylinder 1
 
Base engine (compression) problem affecting Cylinder 1
 
Ignition system (spark plug or plug wire) problem on Cylinder 1
 

Trouble Code: P0302

Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime 3 seconds, engine speed change under 1200 rpm, and the PCM detected a misfire condition present in one cylinder during the 200 (Catalyst) or 1000 revolution (Emission) test range. Note: If the misfire is severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!
