Removal & Installation



3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Record the radio anti theft code data.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Starter motor
     
    Oil filter
     
    Lower oil pan
     
    Upper oil pan

  1. Apply silicone sealant to the grove of the oil pan flange.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper oil pan and tighten the bolts in sequence as follows:
    1. Bolts 1-14: 14-20 ft. lbs. (19-28 Nm)
    2.  
    3. Bolts 15 and 16: 44-62 inch lbs. (5-7 Nm)
    4.  
    5. Upper oil pan-to-transaxle mounting bolts: 22-33 ft. lbs. (30-42 Nm)
    6.

  5. Install the lower oil pan and tighten the bolts in sequence to 86-104 inch lbs. (10-12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install or connect the following:

    Oil filter
     
    Starter motor
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  8.  
  9. Fill the crankcase to the correct level with engine oil.
  10.  
  11. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Reprogram the radio anti theft codes.
  14.  

3.8L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Record the radio anti theft code data.
  4.  
  5. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pan from the engine.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Using a gasket scrapper, remove all old packing material from the gasket mating surfaces.

  3. Before assembling the oil pan, liquid sealant TB1217H should be applied to the oil pan.
    NOTE
    After applying the sealant the part must be assembled within five minutes.

  5. Position the oil pan to the engine block. Torque the oil pan bolts to specification using an alternating sequence pattern.
    NOTE
    After assembly wait at least thirty minutes before filling the engine with clean engine oil.

  6.  
  7. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
