2002-05 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut from the vehicle and attach Service Tool 0K2A1 341 001 or other suitable spring compressor.
  4.  
  5. Compress the coil spring.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Upper mount retaining nut
     
    Mounting block
     
    Upper spring seat
     
    Upper spring isolator
     
    Coil spring
     
    Dust boot
     
    Bump stopper
     
    Lower spring seat

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower spring seat
     
    Bump stopper
     
    Dust boot
     
    Coil spring
     
    Upper spring isolator
     
    Upper spring seat
     
    Mounting block
     
    Upper mount retaining nut and tighten it to 88-101 ft. lbs. (120-137 Nm).

  3. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary.
  6.  

2006 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut from the vehicle and attach Service Tool 09546-2600 or other suitable spring compressor.
  4.  
  5. Compress the coil spring.
  6.  
  7. Remove the self locking nut from the strut. Remove the insulator, spring seat, coil spring and dust cover.
  8.  
  9. Inspect the insulator for wear and damage, replace as required.
  10.  
  11. Check the rubber parts for damage or deterioration, replace as required.
  12.  
  13. Install the spring lower pad so that the protrusions fit the holes in the spring lower seat.
  14.  
  15. Compress the spring, using the spring compressor tool. Install the compressed spring into the shock absorber.
    NOTE
    There are two color identification marks on the coil spring, one indicates model option and the other indicates load classification. Install the coil spring with the identification mark directed toward the knuckle.

  17. After fully extending the piston rod, install the spring upper seat and insulator assembly.
  18.  
  19. After seating the upper and lower ends of the coil spring in the upper and lower spring grooves correctly, tighten the new self locking nut temporarily.
  20.  
  21. Remove the spring compression tool. Tighten the self locking nut to 43-51 ft. lbs. (60-70 Nm).
  22.  
  23. Install the strut to the vehicle.

Removal & Installation



2002-05 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Brake hose from the bracket
     
    Wheel speed sensor cable
     
    Steering knuckle mounting bolts
     
    Upper strut mount nuts
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Upper strut mount nuts and tighten them to 33-46 ft. lbs. (46-62 Nm).
     
    Steering knuckle mounting bolts and tighten them to 88-101 ft. lbs. (119-137 Nm).
     
    Wheel speed sensor cable
     
    Brake hose to the bracket
     
    Front wheel
     

  4.  
  5. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary.
  6.  

2006 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the front tires.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake hose bracket bolt from the strut assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the speed sensor and wire bolts from the front knuckle.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front stabilizer link nut from the strut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper strut mounting nuts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the front strut mounting bolts from the knuckle.
  14.  
  15. Remove the strut from its mounting.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the strut to the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Torque the upper retaining nuts to 32-43 ft. lbs. (45-60 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Torque the lower strut retaining bolts to 72-87 ft. lbs. (100-120 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Torque the front stabilizer link to the strut assembly nut to -87 ft. lbs. (100-120 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  10.
