Removal & Installation



3.5L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the heater hoses.
  8.  
  9. Remove the driver air bag module.
  10.  
  11. Remove the steering wheel.
  12.  
  13. Remove the turn signal assembly.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
  16.  
  17. Remove the A-pillar upper trim.
  18.  
  19. Remove the instrument cluster trim.
  20.  
  21. Remove the instrument cluster.
  22.  
  23. Remove the A-pillar lower trim.
  24.  
  25. Remove the hood release handle.
  26.  
  27. Remove the left lower trim panel.
  28.  
  29. Remove the multi box.
  30.  
  31. Remove the audio panel.
  32.  
  33. Remove the ventilation control panel.
  34.  
  35. Remove the radio.
  36.  
  37. Remove the glove box.
  38.  
  39. Remove the center console.
  40.  
  41. Remove the audio system speakers and mounting bolts from the top of the instrument panel.
  42.  
  43. Remove the side covers.
  44.  
  45. Remove the T-bar mounting bolts.
  46.  
  47. Remove the bottom mounting bolts.
  48.  
  49. Remove the instrument panel wiring harness connectors.
  50.  
  51. Remove the instrument panel.
  52.  
  53. Remove the heater unit.

To install:

  1. Install the heater unit.
  2.  
  3. Install the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Connect the instrument panel wiring harness connectors.
  6.  
  7. Install the bottom mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Install the T-bar mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Install the side covers.
  12.  
  13. Install the upper mounting bolts and audio system speakers.
  14.  
  15. Install the center console.
  16.  
  17. Install the glove box.
  18.  
  19. Install the radio.
  20.  
  21. Install the ventilation control panel.
  22.  
  23. Install the audio panel.
  24.  
  25. Install the multi box.
  26.  
  27. Install the left lower trim panel.
  28.  
  29. Install the hood release handle.
  30.  
  31. Install the A-pillar lower trim.
  32.  
  33. Install the instrument cluster.
  34.  
  35. Install the instrument cluster trim.
  36.  
  37. Install the A-pillar upper trim.
  38.  
  39. Install the upper and lower steering column covers.
  40.  
  41. Install the turn signal assembly.
  42.  
  43. Install the steering wheel.
  44.  
  45. Install the driver air bag module.
  46.  
  47. Install the heater hoses.
  48.  
  49. Connect the negative battery cable.
  50.  
  51. Fill the cooling system.
  52.  
  53. Start the engine and check for leaks and proper heater operation.
  54.  

3.8L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Record the radio anti theft code data.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the cooling system. Discharge the air conditioning system.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect and plug the heater hoses.
  8.  
  9. Remove the front seat.
  10.  
  11. Tilt the steering column down. Remove the screws and detach the clips from the cluster facia panel. Disconnect the connector and remove the cluster facia panel.
  12.  
  13. Remove the screws and detach the clips from the center facia panel. Disconnect the connector and remove the center facia panel. Remove the radio retaining screws. Disconnect the connectors and remove the radio.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the damper from the glovebox lid. Remove the glovebox lid from the lift. Disconnect the retaining pins and remove the glovebox assembly.
  16.  
  17. Remove the dash pad side cover, center cover and under cover. Remove the front A-pillar trim.
  18.  
  19. Remove the photo sensor. Remove the speaker connector.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the passenger-s air bag connector.
  22.  
  23. Loosen the bolt and nut. Remove the dash pad.

  25. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the cross bar assembly. Loosen the bolts and nuts that retain the assembly in place. Remove the cross bar assembly.

  27. Disconnect the connectors from the temperature control actuator, the mode control actuator and the evaporator temperature sensor.

  29. Remove the heater/blower unit from the vehicle, after removing the three retaining screws.
  30.  
  31. Separate the blower unit from the heater unit, after removing the two retaining screws.
  32.  
  33. Remove the heater core cover. Remove the heater core from its mounting.
  34.  

To install:

  1. Install the heater core in the heater unit. Attach the heater unit to the blower housing.
  2.  
  3. Position the assembly in the vehicle. Attach the retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  6.  
  7. Make sure that you reprogram the anti theft code for the radio.
  8.
