2002-05 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    Hub cover
     
    Cotter pin
     
    Lock nut cover
     

  4.  
  5. Adjust the locknut to achieve wheel bearing play of 0.001-0.006 inches (0.025-0.152 mm).
  6.  

Removal & Installation



2002-05 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    Hub cap
     
    Cotter pin
     
    Lock nut cover
     
    Lock nut
     
    Wheel bearing retainer washer and the outer wheel bearing
     
    Hub assembly
     
    Grease seal
     
    Inner wheel bearing
     

  4.  
  5. Clean and inspect the wheel bearings and races for unusual wear or damage. Replace parts as necessary.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Pack the wheel bearings with grease for assembly.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Inner wheel bearing
     
    Grease seal
     
    Hub assembly
     
    Lock nut. Adjust the locknut to achieve wheel bearing play of 0.001-0.006 inches (0.025-0.152 mm).
     
    Lock nut cover
     
    Cotter pin
     
    Hub cap
     
    Brake drum
     
    Rear wheel

2006 Models
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Release the parking brake. Raise and support the vehicle safely. Remove the rear tires.
  4.  
  5. Support the lower part of the lower arm, using a jack. Remove the bolt and nut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the coil spring and upper pad. Remove the wheel speed sensor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake caliper, and position it to the side with wire.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake rotor, after loosening the retaining screws.
  12.  
  13. Unstake the lock nut. Remove the lock nut and washer. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Torque the lock nut to 145-188 ft. lbs. (200-260 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Torque the caliper retaining bolts to 36-43 ft. lbs. (50-60 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Torque the lower arm retaining nut and bolt to 116-130 ft. lbs. (160-180 Nm).
