Trouble Code: P0141

HO2S-12 (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Heater Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine started, engine running and PCM detected the HO2S heater current was more than 2 amps, or it was less than 0.25 amps.

Possible Causes:



HO2S power feed circuit from the Main Relay is open
 
HO2S heater control circuit is open
 
HO2S heater element has high resistance, is shorted or open
 
HO2S heater is damaged or has failed
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0170

Fuel System Too Rich or Too Lean (Bank 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0171and P0172 not set, engine running in closed loop for over 2 minutes, and the PCM detected the amount of rich or lean Fuel Trim correction exceeded the Threshold maximum.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks present in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipes
 
Air being drawn in from leaks in engine gaskets or other seals
 
Incorrect fuel pressure, or one or more fuel injectors has failed
 
Front HO2S element is contaminated or has failed
 
A "fuel control" sensor is out of calibration (BARO, ECT or IAT)
 

Trouble Code: P0171

Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running in closed loop at a speed of over 5 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the Lambda correction value exceeded the "high" Threshold limit, condition met for 200 seconds.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks in intake manifold, exhaust pipes or exhaust manifold
 
One or more injectors restricted or pressure regulator has failed
 
Air is being drawn in from leaks in gaskets or other seals
 
O2S element is deteriorated or has failed
 
A "fuel control" sensor is out of calibration (ECT, IAT or MAP)
 

Trouble Code: P0172

Fuel System Too Rich (Bank 1)

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running in closed loop at a speed of over 5 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the Lambda correction value exceeded the "low" Threshold limit, condition met for 240 seconds.

Possible Causes:



One or more injectors leaking or pressure regulator is leaking
 
O2S element is deteriorated or has failed
 
EVAP vapor recovery system has failed (canister full of fuel)
 
Base engine fault (i.e., cam timing incorrect, engine oil too high
 
A "fuel control" sensor is out of calibration (ECT, IAT or MAP)

Cylinder 1 Injector Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running and the PCM detected the identified fuel injector control circuit signal was more than the upper limit, or that it was less than the lower limit, or that no control signal was present.

Fuel injector 1 control circuit is open or shorted to ground

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime 3 seconds, engine speed change under 1200 rpm, and the PCM detected a random misfire condition in more than one cylinder during the 200 revolution or the 1000 revolution test range. Note: If the misfire is severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!

Possible Causes:



Vehicle driven under low fuel condition (less than 1/8 of a tank)
 
CKP or CMP sensor signal erratic or out of phase
 
Base engine problem affecting two or more engine cylinders
 
Ignition system problem affecting two or more engine cylinders

Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine runtime 3 seconds, engine speed change under 1200 rpm, and the PCM detected a misfire condition present in one cylinder during the 200 (Catalyst) or 1000 revolution (Emission) test range. Note: If the misfire is severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!

Fuel metering (fuel injector dirty) problem affecting Cylinder 1
 
Base engine (compression) problem affecting Cylinder 1

Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine cranking for 5 seconds, and the PCM did not detect any CKP sensor signals, or the vehicle was driven to a speed over 15.5 mph, and the PCM did not detect any CKP sensor signals for 5 seconds.

Possible Causes:



CKP sensor signal circuit open or shorted to ground
 
CKP sensor signal circuit shorted to VREF or system power

Crankshaft Position Sensor Performance

Trouble Code Conditions: Engine running and the PCM detected the number of CKP sensor signals counted (between the reference mark gap) did not equal the Actual number of available teeth (i.e., the CKP signals were out or the normal window" of operation with the CMP sensor signals okay).

Possible Causes:



CKP sensor signal circuit connections loose (intermittent fault)
 
CKP sensor wiring harness has a connection fault (intermittent)
 
CKP to Target Wheel "air gap" is incorrect

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0130, P0133, P0134, P0135, P0136, P0139, P0140 and P0141 not set, engine started, engine running in closed loop at a speed of 45-60 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected that the rear HO2S and front HO2S voltage amplitudes were too similar.

Trouble Code Conditions: DTC P0136, P0139 and P0140 not set, engine running at 3000 rpm or high in closed loop at 45-60 mph for 140 seconds, and the PCM detected the rear HO2S and front HO2S signals were too similar.

Possible Causes:



Air leaks at the exhaust manifold or in the exhaust pipes
 
Catalytic converter is damaged or has failed
 
Front HO2S or rear HO2S is contaminated with fuel or moisture

Trouble Code Conditions: ECT sensor signal less than158°F at startup, IAT sensor signal more than 9.05°F, system voltage more than 10.9 volts engine runtime 15-20 minutes at cruise speed, then returned to idle speed, VSS indicating 0 mph, load value 2.2 ms, canister load factor less than 4.0, fuel tank pressure less than 0.5" Hg, then after the Idle Control system and Fuel Trim stabilized, the PCM detected a continuous purge condition in the EVAP system during the Purge flow test.

Possible Causes:



Small hoses or cuts present in the EVAP vapor hoses/lines
 
EVAP canister purge solenoid is damaged or is stuck open
 
PCM has failed
 

Trouble Code: P0442

EVAP System Small Leak (0.040") Detected

Trouble Code Conditions: ECT sensor signal less than158°F at startup, IAT sensor signal more than 9.05°F, system voltage more than 10.9 volts engine runtime 15-20 minutes at cruise speed, then returned to idle speed, VSS indicating 0 mph, load value 2.2 ms, canister load factor less than 4.0, fuel tank pressure less than 0.5" Hg, then after the Idle Control system and Fuel Trim had stabilized, the PCM detected a fuel vapor leak (as small as 0.040") in the EVAP system during the EVAP Leak Test.

Possible Causes:



Fuel filler cap damaged, cross-threaded or loosely installed
 
Small leaks or cuts present in the EVAP vapor hoses/lines
 
EVAP purge valve is damaged or has failed

EVAP Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction

Trouble Code Conditions: Key on or engine running and the PCM detected an unexpected voltage condition on the EVAP Purge Control solenoid circuit.
