  2.
  3. Install the drive belt over the pulleys.
  4.
  5. Attach the high pressure hose and tighten the bolt to 33-40 ft. lbs. (44-54 Nm).
  6.
  7. Tighten the lock bolt to 27-38 ft. lbs. (37-52 Nm).
  8.
  9. Attach the return hose. Make sure the white mark on the hose is aligned with the white mark on the return pipe.
  10.
  11. Adjust the belt deflection by turning the adjusting bolt. For more information, refer to the procedure in the Engine Mechanical Section.
  12.
  13. Attach the PSP switch electrical connector.
  14.
  15. Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid and bleed the system.
  16.

1.6L (VIN 3) And 2.0L Engines

  1. Remove the pressure hose (A) from the oil pump (B).
  2.
  3. Disconnect the suction hose (C) suction pipe (D) and drain the fluid into a container.

  8.
  9. Remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  10.
  11. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolt and tension adjusting bolt.
  12.
  13. Remove the power steering pump assembly. Do not drip power steering fluid on engine components or the vehicle, as you are removing the pump.
  14.

To install:

  1. Install the pump to the bracket, install the belt and tighten the bolt (A) adjusting tension to 18-24 ft. lbs. (25-33 Nm) for 1.6L engines or to 25-36 ft. lbs. (35-50 Nm)
  2.
  3. Install the pressure hose to the pump. Tighten to 40-47 ft. lbs. (55-65 Nm). Make sure the hose does not get twisted or contact other components during installation.
  4.
  5. Connect the suction hose to the suction pipe.
  6.
  7. Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid and bleed the system.
  8.

1.8L Engine

  1. Loosen pivot bolt from P/S pump
  2.
  3. Loosen locknut from P/S pump
  4.
  5. Loosen bracket nut from P/S pump bracket
  6.
  7. Remove drive belt
  8.
  9. Loosen nut and remove high pressure hose from P/S pump
  10.
  11. Disconnect fluid suction hose after pressing clip
  12.
  13. Loosen three bracket retaining bolts

  16.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, noting the following tightening specifications:
    1. Power steering pump bolts: 27-38 ft. lbs. (337-52 Nm).
    2.
    3. High pressure hose bolt: 33-40 f t. lbs. (44-54 Nm).
    4.

  2.
  3. Fill the reservoir with power steering fluid and bleed the system.
  4.

2.4L And 2.7L Engines

  1. Disconnect the pressure hose from the pump
    NOTE
Before disconnecting the suction hose, cover the alternator to prevent fluid from dripping onto it.

  2.
  3. Detach the suction hose from the suction connector and drain the fluid into a container.
  4.
  5. On 2.7L engines, remove the serpentine belt.
  6.
  7. On 2.4L engines, loosen the tensioner adjusting bolt to remove the belt.
  8.
  9. Unfasten the oil pump mounting bolts and detach the pressure switch connector and remove the pump from the vehicle.
