Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove the spark plug wire.
  4.
  5. Disconnect the primary circuit harness connector.
  6.
  7. Remove the bolt and ignition coil.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install the ignition coil and tighten the bolt to 69-105 inch lbs. (7.8-11.8 Nm).
  2.
  3. Connect the primary circuit harness and the spark plug wire.
  4.

Testing

Primary Circuit Test
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. To measure primary circuit resistance, connect a 3 volt DC power supply to terminals 1 (+) and 2 (-) of the ignition coil.
  4.
  5. Measure resistance between terminals 2 and 3. There should be 0.78 Ohms +/- 10%.
  6.
  7. Disconnect the 3 volt power supply and measure resistance between terminals 2 and 3. There should be no continuity.
  8.
  9. If either test fails, replace the ignition coil.

Secondary Circuit Test
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the spark plug cables and measure resistance between the high-voltage terminals of the ignition coil. Standard value is 13 kOhms +/- 2.6 kOhms.
  4.
  5. Replace the ignition coil if this measurement is not correct.
