Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the upper radiator hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the breather hose and air-intake hose.
  12.  
  13. Remove the vacuum hose, fuel hose and coolant hose.
  14.  
  15. Remove the intake manifold.
  16.  
  17. Remove the cables from the spark plugs. The cables should be removed holding the boot portion.
  18.  
  19. Remove the ignition coil.
  20.  
  21. Remove the upper and lower timing belt cover.
  22.  
  23. Remove the timing belt and camshaft sprockets.
  24.  
  25. Remove the heat protector and exhaust manifold assembly.
  26.  
  27. Remove the coolant pump pulley and head cover.
  28.  
  29. Remove the camshafts.
  30.  
  31. Remove the rocker arms and lash adjusters.
  32.  


NOTE
Keep all valvetrain components in order for installation.

  1. Inspect the roller visually. If any damage is found, replace it.
  2.  
  3. Check that the roller operates smoothly. If there is excessive clearance, replace it.
  4.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the upper radiator hose.
  10.  
  11. Remove the breather hose and air-intake hose.

  13. Remove the vacuum hose, fuel hose and coolant hose.
  14.  
  15. Remove the intake manifold.
  16.  
  17. Remove the cables from the spark plugs.  The cables should be removed holding the boot portion.

  29. Remove the camshafts.

  31. Remove the rocker arms and lash adjusters.
    NOTE
    Keep all valvetrain components in order for installation.

  33. Inspect the roller visually. If any damage is found, replace it.
  34.  
  35. Check that the roller operates smoothly. If there is excessive clearance, replace it.
  36.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
