Lower Ball Joints

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower nut of the control link of the stabilizer bar.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower nut of the strut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts and nuts that joins the lower arm and lower arm ball joint.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the lower arm ball joint.
  14.  
  15. Separate the lower arm ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the lower arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Tighten the ball joint-to-control arm fasteners to 116-145 ft. lbs. (157-196 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install a new castle nut and cotter pin through the castle nut.
  4.  
  5. Install the lower nut of the strut assembly and tighten to 88-101 ft. lbs. (122-140 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the lower nut of control link of stabilizer bar and tighten the nut to 68-84 ft. lbs. (95-117 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the front wheels.
  10.  
  11. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary.
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.

  5. Remove the front wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower nut of the control link of the stabilizer bar.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower nut of the strut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts and nuts that join the lower arm and lower arm ball joint.
  12.  
  13. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the lower arm ball joint.
  14.  
  15. Separate the lower arm ball joint from the steering knuckle.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the lower arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Tighten the ball joint-to-control arm fasteners to 116-145 ft. lbs. (157-196 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install a new castle nut and cotter pin through the castle nut.
  4.  
  5. Install the lower nut of the strut assembly and tighten to 88-101 ft. lbs. (122-140 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the lower nut of control link of stabilizer bar and tighten the nut to 68-84 ft. lbs. (95-117 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the front wheels.
  10.  
  11. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary.
