Upper Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Secure the upper control arm in a suitable vise.
  2.  
  3. Using a standard bearing press, remove the old bushing.
  4.  
  5. Install the new bushing and then press it into the upper arm with a standard bearing press.
  6.  
  7. Apply lubricant to the new bushings to facilitate insertion into the upper control arm.
  8.  

  1. Secure the upper control arm in a suitable vise.
  2.  
  3. Using a standard bearing press, remove the old bushing.
  4.  
  5. Install the new bushing and then press it into the upper arm with a standard bearing press.
  6.  
  7. Apply lubricant to the new bushings to facilitate insertion into the upper control arm.
  8.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt on the steering knuckle side that secures the upper arm ball link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake hose bracket and then remove the upper arm bolts and nuts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper control arm from the vehicle.
  12.

  1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  2.  
  3. Position the upper arm to the frame brackets, insert the bolts and hand tighten the nuts.
  4.  
  5. Install the upper arm ball joint into the top of the steering knuckle and tighten the side bolt and nut to 31-39 ft. lbs. (44-55 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten the upper arm bolts and nuts to 54-68 ft. lbs. (76-95 Nm) and then install brake hose brackets.
  8.  
  9. Install the front wheels.
  10.  
  11. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheels.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolt on the steering knuckle side that secures the upper arm ball link.
  8.  
  9. Remove the brake hose bracket and then remove the upper arm bolts and nuts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper control arm from the vehicle.
  12.

  1. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.

  3. Position the upper arm to the frame brackets, insert the bolts and hand tighten the nuts.

  5. Install the upper arm ball joint into the top of the steering knuckle and tighten the side bolt and nut to 31-39 ft. lbs. (44-55 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten the upper arm bolts and nuts to 54-68 ft. lbs. (76-95 Nm) and then install brake hose brackets.
  8.  
  9. Install the front wheels.
  10.  
  11. Check the front end alignment and adjust as necessary.
