Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the power steering fluid.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front wheels.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the power steering fluid pressure and return lines.
  10.  
  11. Remove the joint assembly connecting bolt and separate the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear box.
  12.  
  13. Separate the outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering gear box mounting bolts and remove the steering gear box assembly together with mounting rubber.

  1. Install the steering gear into position on the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Install the steering gear mounting rubber, brackets and fasteners. Tighten the mounting bracket fasteners (2) to 54-68 ft. lbs. (75-95 Nm). Tighten the steering gear fasteners (1) to 88-114 ft. lbs. (122-158 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Tighten the pinch bolt to 15-19 ft. lbs. (22-27 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Tighten the nuts to 50-57 ft. lbs. (70-80 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the power steering fluid pressure and return lines. Tighten the bolts to 23-34 ft. lbs. (32-48 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the front wheels
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Fill the power steering system with the correct amount of power steering fluid.
  16.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Drain the power steering fluid.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front wheels.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the power steering fluid pressure and return lines.
  10.  
  11. Remove the joint assembly connecting bolt and separate the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear box.
  12.  
  13. Separate the outer tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
  14.  
  15. Remove the steering gear box mounting bolts and remove the steering gear box assembly together with mounting rubber.

  1. Install the steering gear into position on the vehicle.

  3. Install the steering gear mounting rubber, brackets and fasteners. Tighten the mounting bracket fasteners (2) to 54-68 ft. lbs. (75-95 Nm). Tighten the steering gear fasteners (1) to 88-114 ft. lbs. (122-158 Nm).
