Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Secure the lower control arm in a suitable vise.
  2.  
  3. Using a standard bearing press, remove the old bushing.
  4.  
  5. Install the new bushing and then press it into the lower arm with a standard bearing press.
  6.  
  7. Apply lubricant to the new bushings to facilitate insertion into the lower control arm.
  8.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Raise the rear axle housing to facilitate removal of the lower arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the shock absorber lower bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wheel speed sensor cable from rear lower arm.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the lower arm bolts and remove the lower arm.
  14.  
  15. Inspect the lower arm for bends, cracks and/or other damage. Inspect the lower arm bushings for wear and/or deterioration.

To install:

  1. Install the lower arm and the bolts. Tighten the bolts to 101-116 ft. lbs. (137-157 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install wheel speed sensor cable to the rear lower arm.
  4.  
  5. Install shock absorber lower bolt. Tighten the bolt to 88-101 ft. lbs. (122-140 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Lower the rear axle housing.
  8.  
  9. Install the rear wheels.
  10.  
  11. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheels.
  6.  
  7. Raise the rear axle housing to facilitate removal of the lower arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the shock absorber lower bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wheel speed sensor cable from rear lower arm.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the lower arm bolts and remove the lower arm.
  14.  
  15. Inspect the lower arm for bends, cracks and/or other damage. Inspect the lower arm bushings for wear and/or deterioration.

To install:

  1. Install the lower arm and the bolts. Tighten the bolts to 101-116 ft. lbs. (137-157 Nm).

  7. Lower the rear axle housing.

  9. Install the rear wheels.

  11. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
