Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor

Print

Operation

This sensor is a pressure sensitive variable resistor. It measures the changes in the intake manifold pressure which result from engine load and speed changes, and converts to a voltage output. This sensor is used to measure the barometric pressure at start up, and under certain conditions, allows the ECM to automatically adjust for different altitudes.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.
  5. Remove the sensor retaining screws.
  6.
  7. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  8.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.

Testing

  1. Apply vacuum to the EGR differential pressure sensor, using a vacuum pump.
  2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  4.
  5. With the EGR differential pressure sensor still connected, measure the voltage at the ERGR differential pressure sensor connector (pin 3 gry).
  6.
  7. Specifications are as follows:

6.0 inch Hg approximately 3.6 volts

12.0 inch Hg approximately 2.6 volts

16.0 inch Hg approximately 1.9 volts

25.0 inch Hg approximately 0.4 volt

  8.
  9. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
