  1. Inspect the sensor connector connection, check terminal for poor connections, loose wires, bent, broken or corroded pins, and then verify that the connector is always securely fastened.
  2.
  3. Remove the sensor from the engine.
  4.
  5. Place the sensing portion of the sensor immersed in water, check the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 using an ohmmeter at the following temperatures.
    1. With the water temperature at 68°F, resistance should be 2.1-2.7 kohms.
    2.
    3. Heat water temperature to 176°F, resistance should be 0.290-0.354 kohms.
    4.

  6.
  7. If not within specification, replace the sensor.
  8.

  1. Remove the sensor from the engine.
  2.
  3. With the sensing portion of the sensor immersed in hot water, check the resistance using an ohmmeter.
  4.
  5. Specifications are as follows:

    Temperature 68 degrees F, resistance 2.45 kohms (plus/minus 0.25)

    Temperature 176 degrees F, resistance 0.322 kohms (plus/minus 0.032)

  6.
  7. Replace the sensor, as required.
  8.
