Axle Shaft, Bearing & Seal

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Wheel assembly
     
    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Bearing retaining nuts
     
    Axle shaft and bearing
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil seal retainer, oil seal and wheel bearing to the axle shaft. Torque the new lock nut to 220 ft. lbs. (300 Nm).

NOTE
Turn the right side halfshaft lock nut clockwise and the left side halfshaft lock nut counterclockwise.



Axle shaft assembly into the axle housing. Torque the nuts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
 
Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
 
Brake drum
 
Rear wheel assembly
 
Negative battery cable
 

  1. Check the fluid level and top off if necessary.
  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section .
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Wheel assembly
     
    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Bearing retaining nuts
     
    Axle shaft and bearing
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
    Turn the right side halfshaft lock nut clockwise and the left side halfshaft lock nut counterclockwise.



    Oil seal retainer, oil seal and wheel bearing to the axle shaft. Torque the new lock nut to 220 ft. lbs. (300 Nm).
     



    Axle shaft assembly into the axle housing. Torque the nuts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
     
    Wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Brake drum
     
    Rear wheel assembly
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Check the fluid level and top off if necessary.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Wheel assembly
     
    Rear wheel
     
    Brake drum
     
    wheel speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Bearing retaining nuts
     
    Axle shaft and bearing

  1. Install or connect the following:
