Testing

2.7L Engine
  1. Connect the scan tool and monitor the -MASS AIR FLOW (V)- parameter on the scan tool data list.
  2.
  3. Monitor the -MASS AIR FLOW (V)- parameter on the scan tool.
  4.
  5. Specification is approximately 0.6-1.0 volt at idle (no load) and approximately 1.0-1.3 volt at idle (air conditioning ON).
  6.
  7. If within specification, check for poor connection between the ECM and the component.
  8.
  9. If not, substitute the sensor with a known good component, check for proper operation. If problem corrected replace the sensor.
  10.

2.0L Engine
  1. Turn the engine ON.
  2.
  3. Install the scan tool and monitor the -MASS AIR FLOW- parameter on the scan tool data list.
  4.
  5. Specification should be approximately 9.8-15.2 kg/h at idle and no load.
  6.
  7. If within specification, check for poor connection between the PCM and the component.
  8.
  9. If not, substitute the sensor with a known good component, check for proper operation. If problem corrected replace the sensor.
  10.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  4.
  5. Remove the air cleaner and air intake assembly, as required.
  6.
  7. Remove the sensor from its mounting.
  8.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.

Operation

The MAF provides a signal to the ECM for incoming air temperature. This information is used to adjust the injector pulse width and in turn the air/fuel ratio.
