2.0L Engine

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the rear oxygen sensor connector.

  7. Remove the front muffler (A).
  8.  
  9. Remove the exhaust manifold.

  11. Remove the front muffler bracket (A).
  12.  
  13. Remove the oil pan.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing material from the gasket surfaces.
    NOTE
    Check that the mating surfaces are clean and dry before applying liquid gasket.

  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket MS 721-40A, or equivalent, as an even bead, centered between the edges of the mating surface.
    NOTE
    To prevent leakage of oil, apply liquid gasket to the inner threads of the bolt holes. Do not install the parts if five minutes or more have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the residue. After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

  5. Install the oil pan with the bolts. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes to 10-12 Nm (7-9 ft. lbs.)
  6.  
  7. Install the front muffler bracket.
  8.  
  9. Install the exhaust manifold.
  10.  
  11. Install the front muffler.
  12.  
  13. Fill with engine oil
  14.  

2.7L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine and mount it on a work stand.
  4.  
  5. remove the bolts and remove the lower pan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 2 bolts and remove the pickup and gasket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the timing belt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts and remove the upper oil pan.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old packing material from the gasket surfaces.  Check that the mating surfaces are clean and dry before applying liquid gasket.

  3. Install the upper oil pan with the 17 bolts. 
  4.  
  5. Uniformly tighten the bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown, to, bolts 1-15, 19-28 Nm (14-20 ft. lbs.); bolts 16 and 17, 5-7 Nm (4-5 ft. lbs.). 
    NOTE
    To prevent leakage of oil, apply liquid gasket to the inner threads of the bolt holes. Do not install the parts if five minutes or more have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the residue. After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

  6.  
  7. Install a new gasket and oil screen (A) with 2 bolts (B) to 15-22 Nm (11-16 ft. lbs.) 
  8.  
  9. Apply liquid gasket as an even bead, centered between the edges of the mating surface. Use liquid gasket MS 721-40 A, or equivalent. 
  10.  
  11. Install the lower oil pan.
    NOTE
    To prevent leakage of oil, apply liquid gasket to the inner threads of the bolt holes. Do not install the parts if five minutes or more have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket.  Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the residue. After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

  12.  
  13. Install the lower oil pan 10 bolts. 
  14.  
  15. Uniformly, tighten the bolts several passes, in the sequence shown, to 10-12 Nm (7-9 ft. lbs.)
