Power Door Locks

Removal & Installation
Tailgate Lock Actuator
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tailgate trim as follows:
    1. Open the tailgate glass.
    2.  
    3. Remove the retaining screws
    4.  
    5. Carefully pry the tailgate trim to release the retaining clips and remove trim panel from the tailgate.
      NOTE
      When prying with a with a metal pry tool, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage.

    7. Remove the upper trim.
    8.

  5. Disconnect the outside handle rod (A), actuator rod (B), glass latch rod (C), and key cylinder (D).

  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the actuator.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the mounting bolt and two nuts, then remove the actuator assembly.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the actuator to the tailgate and tighten the fasteners to 7 ft. lbs. (8.5 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the electrical connector to the actuator.
  4.  
  5. Connect the outside handle rod (A), actuator rod (B), glass latch rod (C) and key cylinder (D).
  6.  
  7. Replace any damaged clips and install the tailgate upper lower trim panels.
  8.  
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10.  

Front Door Lock Actuator

The front power door lock actuator is incorporated into the door latch and is not serviceable separately. If either component is defective, replace the door lock actuator and latch assembly.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front door trim as follows:
    1. Carefully pry and remove the quadrant inner cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the retaining screw and inside handle cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove the five door trim (A) mounting screws.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the power window switch (B), power mirror (C), and door courtesy lamp (D).
    8.  
    9. Remove the door trim seal.
    10.  
    11. Carefully pry the door trim to release the retaining clips and remove trim panel from the door panel.
      NOTE
      When prying with a with a metal pry tool, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage.

  5. Remove the window glass as follows:
    1. Carefully move the glass (A) until you can see the bolts, then remove them.
      WARNING
      Take care not to drop the glass or scratch the glass surface.

    2.  
    3. Separate the glass from the glass run channel and carefully pull the glass out through the window slot (B).

  7. Remove the door module as follows:
    1. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors and remove the harness from the retaining clips.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the lock rod (A) and outside handle rod (B).
    4.  
    5. Remove the door module.

  9. Disconnect the inside lock cable (B) from the door latch.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the inside handle cable (C) from the door latch.
  12.  
  13. Remove the two screws securing the latch assembly (D) to the door panel and remove the latch assembly.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the latch assembly and secure with the two retaining screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the inside handle cable and lock cable to the door latch.
    1. Install the door module as follows:
    2.  
    3. Position the door module to the door panel. Secure in place with the fasteners. Tighten the 5 bolts and nut to 5-8 ft. lbs. (7-11 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Connect the lock rod and outside handle rod.
    6.  
    7. Properly route the wiring harness and secure in place with the retaining clips.
    8.  
    9. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
    10.

  5. Carefully reinstall the glass into the run channel. Tighten the two mounting bolts to 6-9 ft. lbs. (8-12 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Replace any damaged clips and install the door trim panel. Secure in place with the five door trim mounting screws.
  8.  
  9. Connect the electrical connectors for the power window switch (B), power mirror (C), and door courtesy lamp (D).
  10.  
  11. Install the inside handle cover and secure with the retaining screw.
  12.  
  13. Install the quadrant inner cover.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Roll the glass up and down to see if it moves freely without binding.
  18.  
  19. Make sure the door locks and opens properly.
  20.  

Rear Door Lock Actuator

The rear power door lock actuator is incorporated into the door latch and is not serviceable separately. If either component is defective, replace the door lock actuator and latch assembly.

  1. Connect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear door trim as follows:
    1. Remove the retaining screw and inside handle cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the five door trim mounting screws at points shown.
    4.  
    5. Carefully pry the door trim to release the retaining clips and pull trim panel away from the door panel to access the window switch wiring.
      NOTE
      When prying with a with a metal pry tool, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage.

    7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the power window switch and remove the door panel from the door.

  5. Remove the window glass as follows:
    1. Disconnect the glass run channel by removing the three retaining screws.
    2.  
    3. Carefully move the glass (A) until you can see the retaining bolt, and remove the bolt.
      WARNING
      Take care not to drop the glass or scratch the glass surface.

    5. Separate the glass from the glass run and carefully pull the glass out through the window slot.

  7. Remove the rear run channel mounting bolt and nut. Remove the channel from the door panel.

  9. Remove the door module as follows:
    1. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors for the power window motor, the speaker and the door lock actuator.
    2.  
    3. Remove the door wiring harness from the retaining clips.
    4.  
    5. Remove fasteners securing the door module to the door panel and remove the module assembly.

  11. Remove the latch cover.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the inside lock cable (A) from the door latch.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the inside handle cable (B) from the door latch.

  17. Remove the screw securing the latch assembly (C) to the door panel and remove the latch assembly.

To install:

  1. Install the latch assembly and secure with the retaining screw.
  2.  
  3. Connect the inside handle cable and lock cable to the door latch.
    1. Install the door module as follows:
    2.  
    3. Position the door module to the door panel. Secure in place with the fasteners. Tighten the 5 bolts and nut to 5-8 ft. lbs. (7-11 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Properly route the wiring harness and secure in place with the retaining clips.
    6.  
    7. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors.
    8.

  5. Install the rear run channel and secure in place with the mounting bolt and nut. Tighten the fasteners to 3-4 ft. lbs. (4-6 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Carefully reinstall the glass into the run channel and secure with the three screws.
  8.  
  9. Replace any damaged clips and install the door trim panel. Secure in place with the five door trim mounting screws.
  10.  
  11. Connect the electrical connector for the power window.
  12.  
  13. Install the inside handle cover and secure with the retaining screw.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Roll the glass up and down to see if it moves freely without binding.
  18.  
  19. Make sure the door locks and opens properly.
  20.  

Door Lock Switch
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2.  
  3. Remove the power door switch module from the door panel by pressing fixing clip part (B) with scraper (A).
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch.
  6.  
  7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Diagnosis & Testing
Door Lock Switch
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the front door trim panel.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the six pin electrical connector from the actuator.
  6.  
  7. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.
    1. If continuity is as specified, switch and wiring are okay.
    2.  
    3. If continuity is NOT as specified, proceed to the next step.

  9. Remove the door lock switch from the door panel.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch.
  12.  
  13. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.
    1. If continuity is as specified, switch is okay. Check for a problem with the wiring.
    2.  
    3. If continuity is not as specified, replace the door lock switch.

Door Lock Actuator
  1. Remove the door trim panel.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the six pin electrical connector from the actuator.
  4.  
  5. Check actuator operation by connecting power and ground according to the table.
    WARNING
    To prevent damage to the actuator, apply battery voltage only momentarily.

  6.  
  7. If operation is not as specified, replace the door lock actuator.

Tailgate Lock Actuator
  1. Remove the tailgate trim as follows:
    1. Open the tailgate glass.
    2.  
    3. Remove the retaining screws
    4.  
    5. Carefully pry the tailgate trim to release the retaining clips and remove trim panel from the tailgate.

  3. Disconnect the six pin electrical connector from the actuator.
  4.  
  5. Check actuator operation by connecting power and ground according to the table.
    WARNING
    To prevent damage to the actuator, apply battery voltage only momentarily.

  7. If operation is not as specified, replace the door lock actuator.

Tailgate Lock Switch
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tailgate trim as follows:
    1. Open the tailgate glass.
    2.  
    3. Remove the retaining screws
    4.  
    5. Carefully pry the tailgate trim to release the retaining clips and remove trim panel from the tailgate.

  5. Disconnect the six pin electrical connector from the actuator.
  6.  
  7. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.
    1. If continuity is as specified, switch is okay.
    2.  
    3. If continuity is NOT as specified, replace the switch.
