Parking Brake Shoes

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and properly support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Following proper procedures, remove the brake pads and rotor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the shoe hold down pin and spring by pressing and rotating the spring.
  8.  
  9. Remove the adjuster assembly and the lower return spring.
  10.  
  11. Remove the strut and the upper return springs.
  12.  
  13. Remove the retaining ring of the parking brake cable from back of the backing plate.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the brake shoe.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Connect the parking brake cable to the brake shoe.
  2.  
  3. Lubricate the shoe contact points on the backing plate with a suitable brake grease.
  4.  
  5. Install the shoe hold down pin and spring to hold the brake shoes in place.
    NOTE
    Before install the adjuster wheel, disassemble the adjuster and apply silicone grease or equivalent to the threads.

  6.  
  7. Install the adjuster assembly and the lower return spring.
  8.  
  9. Install the upper return springs and the strut.
  10.  
  11. Install the brake rotor and pads.
  12.  
  13. Following proper procedures, adjust the parking brake shoes.
  14.  
  15. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Check and parking brake system for proper operation and if necessary, adjust the parking brake cable.
  18.  

Adjustment



  1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear wheels.
  4.  
  5. Remove the adjusting plug from the brake backing plate.
  6.  
  7. Rotate the toothed wheel by a screw driver until the disc is not moving, and then back off the adjustment by turning the adjusting wheel 5 notches in the opposite direction.
  8.  
  9. Reinstall the adjusting plug.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
