Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Raise the front of the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported. Remove the front wheels.
  4.
  5. Remove the lower caliper pin bolt and pivot the caliper upward.
  6.
  7. Remove pad shims, pad retainers and pads from the caliper bracket.
  8.

To install:

  1. Remove about one-third of the fluid from the master cylinder.
  2.
  3. Install the pad retainers on the caliper bracket.
  4.
  5. Check the foreign material at the pad shims and the back of the pads. Contaminated brake discs or pads reduce stopping ability. Keep grease off the discs and pads.
  6.
  7. Install the brake pads and pad shims correctly. Install the pad with the wear indicator on the inside.
    NOTE
If you are reusing the pads, always reinstall the brake pads in their original positions to prevent a momentary loss of braking efficiency.

  8.
  9. Push in the piston, using a piston forcing tool, so that the caliper will fit over the pads. Make sure that the piston boot is in position to prevent damaging it when pivoting the caliper down.
  10.
  11. Pivot the caliper down into position. Being careful not to damage the pin boot, install the caliper pin bolt. Torque the caliper pin bolt to 16-23 ft. lbs. (22-31 Nm).
  12.
  13. Refill the master cylinder as necessary.
  14.
  15. Depress the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work, then test-drive.
  16.
