Overhaul (Coil Spring Removal & Installation)



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Using the special tool (09545-26000), or equivalent spring compressor, compress the coil spring (A).
  4.  
  5. Remove the self-locking nut (C) from the strut (B).

  7. Remove the pipe, insulator, spring seat, coil spring and dust cover from the strut (B).
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install the spring lower pad (D) so that the protrusions (A) fit in the holes (C) in the spring lower seat (B).
  2.  
  3. Compress coil spring using the compressor.
  4.  
  5. Install compressed coil spring into shock absorber.
    NOTE
    There are two color marks on the coil spring. One corresponds to model option and the other corresponds to load classification. Ensure that the correct parts are being installed. 

  6.  
  7. Install the coil spring with the identification mark directed toward the knuckle. 
  8.  
  9. After fully extending the piston rod, install the spring upper seat and insulator assembly.
  10.  
  11. After seating the upper and lower ends of the coil spring (A) in the upper and lower spring seat grooves (B) correctly, tighten new self-locking nut temporarily.

  13. Remove the compressor.
  14.  
  15. Tighten the self-locking nut to 37-50 ft. lbs. (52-70 Nm)

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel and tire) from rear hub.
  6.  
  7. Remove the speed sensor cable mounting bolt.
  8.  
  9. With drum brakes, remove the speed sensor cable mounting bolts and the brake hose bracket. 
  10.  
  11. With disc brakes, remove the speed sensor cable mounting bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the stabilizer bar link nut.
  14.  
  15. Remove the strut upper mounting nuts (A).

  17. Remove the strut lower mounting bolts (A) and then remove the strut assembly (B).

To install:

  1. Install the strut assembly and then install the strut lower mounting bolts. Tighten to 103-118 ft. lbs. (140-160 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the strut upper mounting nuts. Tighten to 22-29 ft. lbs. (30-40 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install stabilizer bar link nut. Tighten to 74-88 ft. lbs. (100-120 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the speed sensor cable mounting bolt. Tighten to 5-8 ft. lbs. (7-11 Nm).
  8.  
  9. With drum brakes, install the speed sensor cable mounting bolts and the brake hose bracket. 
  10.  
  11. With disc brakes, install the speed sensor cable mounting bolt.
  12.  
  13. Install the rear wheel and tire on the rear hub. Tighten to 66-81 ft. lbs. (90-110 Nm).
