2.0L Engine




CAUTION
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high-pressure engine coolant escaping from the radiator.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the radiator cap.
  4.  
  5. Raise the vehicle and remove the under cover.
  6.  
  7. At the lower left of the radiator, loosen the drain cock and drain the cooling system.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the thermostat.
  12.  
  13. Remove the nut and bolt securing the thermostat housing and remove the thermostat.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Thoroughly clean the thermostat housing and mating surface. Make certain to remove all gasket material.
  2.  
  3. Position the thermostat on the engine.
  4.  
  5. Install a new gasket onto the housing and install the housing.
  6.  
  7. Secure the housing with the retaining nut and bolt. Tighten both fasteners to 11-14 ft. lbs. (15-20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Raise the vehicle and tighten the drain cock.
  10.  
  11. Install the undercover.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle and refill the cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Run the engine until hot and verify proper cooling system operation.

CAUTION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove the radiator cap.
  4.  
  5. Raise the vehicle and remove the under cover.
  6.  
  7. At the lower left of the radiator, loosen the drain cock and drain the cooling system.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the thermostat.
  12.  
  13. Remove the four retaining bolts from the thermostat housing and remove the thermostat.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Thoroughly clean the thermostat housing and mating surface. Make certain to remove all gasket material.
  2.  
  3. Position the thermostat on the engine.
  4.  
  5. Install a new gasket onto the housing and install the housing.
  6.  
  7. Secure the housing with the four retaining bolts and tighten to 12-14 ft. lbs. (17-20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Raise the vehicle and tighten the drain cock.
  10.  
  11. Install the undercover.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle and refill the cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  
  17. Run the engine until hot and verify proper cooling system operation.
