2.0L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
    CAUTION
    System is under high pressure when the engine is hot. To avoid danger of releasing scalding engine coolant, remove the cap only when the engine is cool.

  4.  
  5. Remove the drive belts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the timing belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the timing belt idler.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering pump and use a wire to secure the pump to the vehicle so that it is out of the way.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolts and power steering pump bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the alternator.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 2 bolts and alternator brace.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the water pump and gasket.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Install the water pump (B) and a new gasket with the 3 bolts (C). Tighten to 11.8-14.7 Nm (8.7-10.8 ft. lbs.)
  2.  
  3. Install the alternator brace (A) with the 2 bolts (D). Tighten to 19.6-26.5 Nm (14.5-19.5 ft. lbs.)
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering pump bracket (A) and bolts (B, C). Tighten to:

    Bolts (B): 34.3-49.0 Nm (25.3-36.2 ft. lbs.)
     
    Bolts (C): 14.7-19.6 Nm (10.8-14.5 ft. lbs.)
     

  6.  
  7. Install the alternator.
  8.  
  9. Install the power steering pump.
  10.  
  11. Install the timing belt idler.
  12.  
  13. Install the timing belt.
  14.  
  15. Install the water pump pulley.
  16.  
  17. Install the drive belts.
  18.  
  19. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 7.8-9.8 Nm (5.8-7.2 ft. lbs.)
  20.  
  21. Fill with engine coolant.
  22.  
  23. Start engine and check for leaks.
  24.  
  25. Recheck engine coolant level.
  26.  

2.7L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
    CAUTION
    System is under high pressure when the engine is hot. To avoid danger of releasing scalding engine coolant, remove the cap only when the engine is cool.

  5. Remove drive belts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the timing belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove the timing belt idler.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump.
  12.  
  13. Remove the water pump (A) and gasket (B).

To install:

  1. Install the water pump (A) and a new gasket (B) with the 8 bolts. Tighten to 15-22 Nm (11-16 ft. lbs.).

    A=8x25
     
    B=8x30 
     
    C=8x32 
     
    D=8x40
     

  2.  
  3. Install the timing belt idler. 
  4.  
  5. Install the timing belt. 
  6.  
  7. Install drive belt.
  8.  
  9. Fill with engine coolant. 
  10.  
  11. Start engine and check for leaks.
  12.  
  13. Recheck engine coolant level.
  14.
