Removal & Installation



Specific to:

Lexus LS400 1993

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect and plug the brake line at the caliper.
  6.  
  7. Hold the sliding pin with a wrench and then remove the mounting bolts.
  8.  
  9. Remove the caliper.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the caliper. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm) on the others.
  2.  
  3. Connect the brake line with two new gaskets and tighten the union to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) on the others.
    NOTE
    Insert the brake line securely into the lock hole in the caliper.

  5. Refill the reservoir as necessary and bleed the brake system.
  6.  

Specific to:

Lexus LS400 1994

  1. Disconnect flexible hose.
    1. Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets from the brake caliper, then disconnect the flexible hose from the brake caliper.
    2.  
    3. Use a container to catch the brake fluid as it drains out.
    4.

  3. Remove caliper.
    1. Hold the sliding pin and loosen the 2 installation bolts.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 installation bolts.
    4.  
    5. Remove the caliper from the torque plate.
    6.

  5. Remove 2 pads.
    NOTE
    Do not disconnect the pad wear indicators unless you are replacing the brake pads.

To install:

  1. Install the following parts:
    1. 2 brake pads
    2.  
    3. 2 anti-squeal springs
    4.

  3. Install caliper.
    1. Temporarily install the caliper on the torque plate with the 2 installation bolts.
    2.  
    3. Hold the sliding pin and torque the installation bolts. Tighten bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

  5. Connect flexible hose.
    1. Install the flexible hose on the brake caliper with 2 new gaskets. Tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
      NOTE
      Insert the flexible hose lock securely in the lock hole in the brake caliper.

  7. Fill brake reservoir with brake fluid and bleed brake system.
  8.  
  9. Check for leakage.
  10.  

Specific to:

Lexus LS400 1995-1997

  1. Disconnect flexible hose.
    1. Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets from the caliper, then disconnect the flexible hose from the caliper. Tighten bolt to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).

    3. Use a container to catch the brake fluid as it drains out.
    4.

  3. Remove caliper.
    1. Hold the sliding pin and loosen the 2 installation bolts.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 installation bolts. Tighten bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

    5. Remove the caliper from the torque plate.
    6.

  5. Remove 2 pads.
    1. Remove the 2 anti-squeal springs.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 pads with anti-squeal shims.
    4.  
    5. Right wheel, remove the clip, and disconnect the pad wear indicator from the inner pad.
    6.  
    7. Remove the 4 pad support plates.
      NOTE
      Do not disconnect the pad wear indicators unless you are replacing the brake pads.

To install:


NOTE
Do not disconnect the pad wear indicators unless you are replacing the brake pads.

  1. Install 2 pads.
    1. Install the 4 pad support plates.
    2.  
    3. Right wheel, install the clip, and connect the pad wear indicator from the inner pad.
    4.  
    5. Install the 2 pads with anti-squeal shims.
    6.  
    7. Install the 2 anti-squeal springs.
    8.

  3. Install caliper.
    1. Install the caliper from the torque plate.
    2.  
    3. Install the 2 installation bolts. Tighten bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
    4.  
    5. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the 2 installation bolts.
    6.

  5. Connect flexible hose.
    1. Use a container to catch the brake fluid as it drains out.
    2.  
    3. Install the union bolt and 2 gaskets from the caliper, then connect the flexible hose from the caliper. Tighten bolt to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).

  6.  
  7. After installation, fill brake reservoir with brake fluid, bleed brake system and check for leaks.
