NOTE
Removal of the thermostat would have an adverse effect, causing a lowering of cooling efficiency. Do not remove the thermostat, even if the engine tends to overheat.

  1. Drain the engine coolant.
  2.  
  3. Remove the battery clamp cover and air cleaner inlet.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the water inlet from wat inlet housing.
    1. Remove the 3 nuts holding the water inlet to the inlet housing, and disconnect the water inlet together with the radiator hose from the water inlet housing.

  7. Remove the thermostat from water inlet housing.
    1. Remove the thermostat.
    2.  
    3. Remove the gasket from the thermostat.

To install:

  1. Place the thermostat in water inlet housing.
    1. Install a new gasket to the thermostat.
    2.  
    3. Insert the thermostat into the water inlet housing with the jiggle valve facing straight upward.
      NOTE
      The jiggle valve may be set within 30° of either side of the prescribed position.

  3. Install the water inlet. Tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).

  5. Fill with engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Start engine and check for coolant leaks.
  8.  
  9. Recheck the engine coolant level.
  10.  
  11. Install the air cleaner inlet and battery clamp cover.
