Disassembly & Assembly



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut from the vehicle.

  5. Install the strut (2) in a strut compressor tool, such as J 45400  (1).
    NOTE
    The spring is compressed when the strut moves freely.

  7. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed.

  9. Use a 45 TORX® socket in order to hold the strut shaft. Remove the upper strut mount nut.
  10.  
  11. Remove the strut from the compressor.
  12.  
  13. Loosen the compressor forcing screw until the upper strut mount and coil spring may be removed.
  14.  
  15. Remove the upper strut mount and the coil spring from the compressor.
  16.  

To assemble

  1. Install the coil spring and upper strut mount in the compressor.
  2.  
  3. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw (1) until the coil spring is compressed.
  4.  
  5. Install the strut to the coil spring and upper strut mount.
  6.  
  7. Install the strut retaining nut. Install the strut mount nut. Tighten the strut mount nut to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Remove the strut from the compressor.
  10.  
  11. Install the strut.
  12.  

Removal & Installation




WARNING
Care should be taken to avoid chipping or scratching the coating when handling the suspension coil spring. Damage to the coating can cause premature failure.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the strut to body mount nuts.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  8.  
  9. Remove the control link from the strut.
    WARNING
    The knuckle must be held in place after the strut to knuckle bolts have been removed. Failure to observe this may cause ball joint and/or wheel drive shaft damage.

  10.  
  11. Remove the strut to knuckle bolts.
  12.  
  13. Remove the strut from the vehicle.

To install:

  1. Install the strut into place.
  2.  
  3. Install the strut to knuckle bolts. Tighten the strut to knuckle bolts and nuts to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the control link to the strut.
  6.  
  7. Install the tire and wheel.
  8.  
  9. Install strut to body mount nuts. Tighten the strut to body mount nuts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Adjust the rear wheel alignment.
