3.6L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the alternator drive belt.

  7. Use tool EN 46104 in order to retain the water pump pulley.
  8.  
  9. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  10.  
  11. Remove the water pump pulley.
  12.  
  13. Remove the water pump bolts.
  14.  
  15. Remove the water pump.
  16.  
  17. Remove and DISCARD the water pump seal.
  18.  
  19. Carefully clean the water pump sealing surfaces.

To install:

  1. Install a NEW water pump seal.
  2.  
  3. Install the water pump.
  4.  
  5. Install the water pump bolts. Tighten the water pump bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the water pump pulley and the water pump pulley bolts.
  8.  
  9. Install the water pump pulley bolts. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the alternator drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Fill the cooling system.
  14.  

3.8L Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The long bolt can be removed by aligning the bolt head up with the hole in the frame rail.



    Negative battery cable
     
    Accessory drive belt
     
    Coolant hoses from the water pump
     
    Water pump pulley bolts
     



    Pulley
     
    Water pump bolts
     
    Water pump
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Apply a thin bead of sealer around the outside edge of the water pump.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Water pump with new gasket. Torque the water pump short bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm) and the long bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
     
    Water pump pulley. Torque the bolts to 115 inch lbs. (13 Nm).
     
    Coolant hoses to the water pump
     
    Accessory drive belt
     

  4.  
  5. Refill and bleed the cooling system.
  6.  
  7. Run the engine and check for leaks.
  8.  
  9. Recheck the coolant level when the engine has cooled.
