Removal & Installation



Wiper Motor

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Ensure that the wipers are in the park position and the ignition key is OFF.
  4.  
  5. Open the hood.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the washer hose from the wiper arm.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wiper arm nut cover.
  10.  
  11. Remove the wiper arm nut.
  12.  
  13. Use the J 39822 to remove the wiper arm from the wiper transmission.

  15. Remove the 3 air inlet grille panel retainers (1).
  16.  
  17. Remove the air inlet grille panel (2).

  19. Disconnect the wiper transmission link from the wiper motor crank arm using the J 39232.

  21. Remove the wiper drive system module screws.
  22.  
  23. Rotate the wiper drive system module to access the wiper motor electrical connector.
  24.  
  25. Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector.
  26.  
  27. Remove the wiper drive system module from the vehicle.
  28.  
  29. Remove the wiper crank arm nut from the wiper motor shaft.
  30.  
  31. Remove the wiper crank arm from the wiper motor shaft.

  33. Remove the wiper motor screws from the wiper motor.

  35. Remove the wiper motor from the wiper module.

To install:

  1. Position the wiper motor to the wiper drive system module.
  2.  
  3. Install the wiper motor screws. Tighten the screws to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the wiper crank arm to the wiper motor shaft.
  6.  
  7. Install the wiper crank arm nut to the wiper motor shaft. Tighten the nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Position the wiper drive system module to the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Connect the wiper motor electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Rotate the wiper drive system module to the mounting position.
  14.  
  15. Install the wiper drive system module screws. Tighten the screws to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the wiper transmission link to the wiper motor crank arm using the J 39529.
  18.  
  19. Install the air inlet grille panel with the 3 grille panel retainers.
  20.  
  21. Position the wiper arm onto the wiper transmission.
  22.  
  23. Align the wiper blades to the small voids in the windshield blackout.
  24.  
  25. Apply Threadlocking compound, GM P/N 89021297 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent, to the wiper arm nut.
  26.  
  27. Install the wiper arm nut. Tighten the nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  28.  
  29. Install the wiper arm nut cover.
  30.  
  31. Connect the washer hose to the wiper arm.
  32.  
  33. Operate the windshield wipers and inspect for proper operation.
  34.  
  35. Close the hood.
  36.
