Removal & Installation



Rear

NOTE
You will need a T4 or equivalent device to check the ABS system after removing and installing the speed sensor.

  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle with safety stands.
    CAUTION
    Never work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Release ABS sensor multiplug from body clip and disconnect multiplug.
  6.  
  7. Release ABS sensor harness from 3 grommets on suspension and body brackets.
  8.  
  9. Release harness from clip on rear brake hose.
  10.  
  11. Unfasten the bolt securing the ABS sensor to hub, if equipped.

  13. Release the sensor from rear hub and remove sensor and harness.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bushing from rear hub, if necessary.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Clean the sensor and rear hub mating faces.
  2.  
  3. Install a new bushing to the rear hub, if necessary.
  4.  
  5. Apply anti-seize grease to sensor.
  6.  
  7. Fit sensor to hub, ensure sensor is fully seated in hub.
    WARNING
    Make sure the ABS sensor is fully inserted into the hub, so that sensor touches pole wheel teeth.

  8.  
  9. Install the bolt securing ABS sensor to hub, if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Make sure the O-ring is in place and connect sensor multiplug to body harness.
  12.  
  13. Secure multiplug in body clip.
  14.  
  15. Secure harness grommets to brackets.
  16.  
  17. Secure harness to brake hose clip.
  18.  
  19. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  20.  
  21. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. To ensure correct system operation, the ABS system MUST be tested using a T4, or equivalent testing equipment.
  24.  

  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the brake disc (rotor), as outlined in this section.
  4.  
  5. Detach the connector from ABS sensor.
  6.  
  7. Release harness from brake hose and bracket.

  9. Unfasten the Allen screw, then remove the ABS sensor from front hub and discard the O-ring.
  10.  
  11. Remove ABS sensor from hub.

To install:

  1. Clean ABS sensor and mating faces.
  2.  
  3. Apply anti-seize grease to sensor.
  4.  
  5. Lubricate and fit new 'O' ring.
  6.  
  7. Position ABS sensor to hub and tighten Allen screw to 18 Nm (13 Ibf.ft).
  8.  
  9. Connect ABS sensor multiplug.
  10.  
  11. Secure harness to brake hose and harness bracket.
  12.  
  13. Install the brake disc (rotor).
  14.  
  15. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  16.  


NOTE

  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove 5 screws securing wheel liner and release liner for access to multiplug housing.
  6.  
  7. Open cover on multiplug housing, release and disconnect sensor multiplug then release sensor lead from suspension turret and suspension arm.
  8.  
  9. Release sensor lead from damper, remove Allen screw and release ABS sensor from hub.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Clean the ABS sensor, smear sensor with an anti-seize grease and install the sensor to hub.
  2.  
  3. Fit Allen screw securing ABS sensor and tighten to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Secure sensor lead to suspension arm and suspension turret then connect and secure multiplug. Close cover on multiplug housing.
  6.  
  7. Position the wheel liner and secure with screws.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel, then carefully lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. To ensure correct system operation, the ABS system MUST be tested using a T4, or equivalent testing equipment.
  12.  

Front

NOTE
You will need a T4 or equivalent device to check the ABS system after removing and installing the speed sensor.

  1. If removing the left front wheel speed sensor, perform the following:
    1. Disconnect the negative, then the positive battery cables.
    2.  
    3. Remove the battery.
    4.  
    5. Remove the battery carrier.
    6.

  3. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle with safety stands.
    CAUTION
    Never work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front wheel liner.
  8.  
  9. Find the ABS sensor harness on inner wing.

  11. Release the ABS sensor multiplug from body clip and disconnect multiplug.
  12.  
  13. Remove the grommet from wing valance and pull harness through.
  14.  
  15. Release the 2 grommets from wing valance and damper brackets.
  16.  
  17. Remove the harness from brake hose clips.

  19. Remove the bolt securing the ABS sensor to the hub, if equipped.

  21. Release ABS sensor from hub.
  22.  
  23. Remove ABS sensor and harness.
  24.  
  25. Remove the bushing from front hub, if necessary.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Clean the ABS sensors and mating faces.
  2.  
  3. Install a new bushing to the front hub, if necessary..
  4.  
  5. Apply anti-seize grease to sensor.
  6.  
  7. Install the sensor to the hub, make sure the sensor is fully seated in hub.
    WARNING
    Make sure the ABS sensor is fully located into hub, so that sensor touches pole wheel teeth.

  8.  
  9. Install the bolt securing ABS sensor to hub, if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Secure harness grommets to brackets.
  12.  
  13. Pass sensor harness through wing valance and secure grommet.
  14.  
  15. Ensure the O-ring is in place and connect sensor multiplug to body harness.
  16.  
  17. Secure multiplug in body clip.
  18.  
  19. Secure harness to brake hose clip.
  20.  
  21. Install the front wheel liner.
  22.  
  23. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
  24.  
  25. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  26.  
  27. If installing the left front wheel speed sensor, perform the following:
    1. Install the battery carrier.
    2.  
    3. Install the battery, then the connect the positive, then the negative battery cables - in that order.
    4.  

  28.  
  29. To ensure correct system operation, the ABS system MUST be tested using a T4, or equivalent testing equipment.
  30.  

  1. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Release the ABS sensor grommet and harness from inner wing valance and detach the connector.

  7. Pull the sensor harness through aperture into wheel liner.

  9. Release harness from brackets on inner wing valance, suspension turret and front hub.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake disc (rotor).
  12.  
  13. Remove the Allen screw, then release ABS sensor from front hub. Remove and discard the O-ring.

  15. Loosen the 4 bolts securing front hub to the swivel hub.
  16.  
  17. Release the front hub from swivel hub enough to allow the sensor harness to be removed.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Clean ABS sensor and mating face.
  2.  
  3. Apply anti-seize grease to sensor.
  4.  
  5. Lubricate and install a new O-ring
  6.  
  7. Position ABS sensor between hub and swivel hub and tighten the Allen screw to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Position hub and tighten the bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Secure harness to brackets and secure grommet to inner wing valence.
  12.  
  13. Connect harness connector
  14.  
  15. Install the brake disc (rotor).
  16.  
  17. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  18.  
  19. Carefully lower the vehicle.
  20.  


NOTE

  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Open cover on multiplug housing, release and disconnect sensor multiplug.
  6.  
  7. Release sensor lead from body bracket, clip and brake hose bracket.
  8.  
  9. Release sensor lead from damper, remove Allen screw and release ABS sensor from hub.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Clean the ABS sensor, smear sensor with an anti-seize grease and install the sensor to hub.
  2.  
  3. Install the Allen screw securing ABS sensor and tighten to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Secure the sensor lead to damper, brake hose bracket, clip and body bracket then connect and secure multiplug. Close cover on multiplug housing.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel, then carefully lower the vehicle..
  8.  
  9. To ensure correct system operation, the ABS system MUST be tested using a T4, or equivalent testing equipment.
