Removal & Installation

Fan removal is covered in the Radiator procedure. Refer to Radiator Removal & Installation in this section.

  1. Release the retainers, then remove the battery cover.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper fan cowl.
    NOTE
    The fan retainer(s) are Right-hand thread.

  6.  
  7. Remove the viscous fan using tool LRT-12-093 and tool LRT-12-094, or equivalent tools.

To install:

  1. Position the viscous fan and tighten using tool LRT-12-093 and tool LRT-12-094.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper fan cowl.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Install the battery cover and secure with the retainers.
  8.  

  1. Release the retainers, then remove the battery cover.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper fan cowl.
    NOTE
    The fan retainer(s) are Right-hand thread.

  6.  
  7. Remove the viscous fan using tool LRT-12-093 and tool LRT-12-094, or equivalent tools.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the viscous fan and tighten using tool LRT-12-093 and tool LRT-12-094.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper fan cowl.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Install the battery cover and secure with the retainers.
  8.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle with safety stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the undertray.
  6.  
  7. Release 3 coolant hoses from clips on fan cowl. Remove screw securing fan cowl to radiator.

  9. Disconnect harness multiplug and release cooling fan multiplug from mounting.
    NOTE
    The thread is left handed.

  10.  
  11. Use LRT-12-214 and LRT-12-215 to loosen viscous coupling lock nut and remove fan assembly from coolant pump.

  13. Remove the scrivets securing fan cowl.
    WARNING
    The radiator matrix is a fragile component, to prevent damage do not allow the fan or fan cowl to contact the radiator.

  15. Release cowl from mountings and remove cowl and fan assembly.
  16.  
  17. Place viscous coupling and fan to work bench.
  18.  
  19. If necessary, remove 4 bolts and remove coupling from fan.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Clean the coupling and fan mating faces.
  2.  
  3. Fit the viscous coupling to fan and tighten 4 bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Carefully fit fan and cowl assembly, secure the cowl to mountings.
  6.  
  7. Fit fan assembly to coolant pump. Using LRT-12-214 and LRT-12-215 tighten viscous coupling lock nut to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Fit cooling fan harness and multiplug to fan cowl.
  10.  
  11. Fit screw securing fan cowl to radiator.
  12.  
  13. Secure 3 coolant hoses to clips on fan cowl.
  14.  
  15. Install the undertray.
  16.  
  17. Connect the negative battery cable.
  18.
