Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Remove the top arm, as follows:
    1. Remove the underbelly panel.
    2.
    3. Remove the engine acoustic cover.

To install:

  1. Clean the pulley 'V's and the tensioner pulley running surface.
    NOTE
Examine drive belt for signs of wear. A drive belt with cracked ribs is acceptable. A drive belt that has loose or missing parts of ribs must be changed.

  2.
  3. Install the drive belt to the crankshaft pulley.
  4.
  5. Raise the belt tensioner and connect the drive belt to steering pump, alternator and compressor pulleys. Ensure drive belt is correctly located in pulley grooves.
  6.
  7. Position engine mounting front bracket to engine front plate and tighten the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  8.
  9. Install the top arm:
    1. Position top arm to front engine mounting bracket, fit and tighten bolts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
    2.
    3. Lower and remove jack supporting engine.
    4.
    5. Position PAS pipe support bracket to hydramount.
    6.
    7. Fit nut securing top arm to RH hydramount and tighten to 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm).
    8.
    9. Position upper RH engine steady to top arm, fit and tighten bolt to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
    10.
    11. Tighten bolt securing upper RH engine steady to body to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
    12.
    13. Fit underbelly panel.
    14.
    15. Fit engine acoustic cover.
    16.

  10.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.

  1. Remove the viscous fan, as follows:
    1. Release the retainers, then remove the battery cover.
    2.
    3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    4.
    5. Remove the upper fan cowl.
      NOTE
The fan retainer(s) are Right-hand thread.

    6.
    7. Remove the viscous fan using tool LRT-12-093 and tool LRT-12-094, or equivalent tools.
