Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Coolant
     
    Oil pan
     
    Oil filter
     
    Oil pump pick-up tube
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Drive belt
     
    Front cover
     
    Remove the timing chain and gears.
     
    Remove the 7 bolts/screws mounting the oil pump cover plate.
     
    Matchmark the inner and outer oil pump rotors, then remove the rotors and oil pump drive gear as an assembly.

To install:

  1. Lubricate the rotors, oil pump drive gear, cover plate and housing with engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Align the rotor matchmarks, then install the oil pump drive gear and rotors as an assembly.
  4.  
  5. Apply Loctite® 222 to the mounting bolts/screws for the oil pump cover plate, then install the plate and tighten the bolts to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm) and the screws to 36 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the timing chain and gears.
  8.  
  9. Connect the oil pump pick-up tube and install the oil pan.
  10.  
  11. Install a new oil filter and fill the engine with oil.
  12.  
  13. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect battery ground lead.
  4.  
  5. Drain engine oil.
  6.  
  7. Remove camshaft timing belt.
  8.  
  9. Remove crankshaft gear.
  10.  
  11. Detach the connector from oil pressure switch.
  12.  
  13. Using sequence shown, loosen and remove oil cooler pipe unions from oil filter housing, remove and discard 2 O-rings.
  14.  
  15. Using strap wrench, remove and discard oil filter.
  16.  
  17. Remove and discard 16 bolts securing oil pump to cylinder block.
  18.  
  19. Release oil pump from locating dowels and remove oil pump.
  20.  
  21. Remove and discard oil pump gasket.
  22.  
  23. Remove and discard crankshaft front oil seal from oil pump housing.

To install:

  1. Using a lint free cloth and a suitable cleaning solvent, clean oil pump and mating face on cylinder block.
  2.  
  3. Using a lint free cloth, thoroughly clean oil seal recess in oil pump and running surface on crankshaft.
  4.  
  5. Fit new oil pump gasket, dry, to cylinder block.
  6.  
  7. Fit oil seal guide, from seal kit, over end of crankshaft.
  8.  
  9. Position oil pump, aligning flats on oil pump drive to flats on crankshaft. Fit new Patchlok bolts and tighten progressively in sequence illustrated to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  11. Position new seal on crankshaft up against oil pump housing. Drift seal into place using tool LRT-12-202.
  12.  
  13. Remove oil seal guide from crankshaft.
  14.  
  15. Connect multiplug to oil pressure switch.
  16.  
  17. Lubricate oil filter sealing ring with clean engine oil.
  18.  
  19. Fit oil filter and tighten by hand until it seats then tighten a further half turn.
  20.  
  21. Lubricate new O-rings with clean engine oil and fit to oil cooler pipe unions.
  22.  
  23. Connect oil cooler pipes to oil filter housing and tighten unions to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm).
  24.  
  25. Clean crankshaft gear and wipe end of crankshaft.
  26.  
  27. Fit crankshaft gear.
  28.  
  29. Fit camshaft timing belt.
  30.  
  31. Fill engine with oil.
  32.  
  33. Connect the negative battery cable.
  34.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Coolant
     
    Oil pan
     
    Oil filter
     
    Oil pump pick-up tube
     
    Crankshaft pulley
     
    Drive belt
     
    Front cover
     
    Remove the timing chain and gears.
     
    Remove the 7 bolts/screws mounting the oil pump cover plate.
     
    Matchmark the inner and outer oil pump rotors, then remove the rotors and oil pump drive gear as an assembly.

To install:

  1. Lubricate the rotors, oil pump drive gear, cover plate and housing with engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Align the rotor matchmarks, then install the oil pump drive gear and rotors as an assembly.
  4.  
  5. Apply Loctite®.222 to the mounting bolts/screws for the oil pump cover plate, then install the plate and tighten the bolts to 72 inch lbs. (8 Nm) and the screws to 36 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the timing chain and gears.
  8.  
  9. Connect the oil pump pick-up tube and install the oil pan.
  10.  
  11. Install a new oil filter and fill the engine with oil.
  12.  
  13. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
  14.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the timing gear cover (oil pump is integral with timing gear cover).
  4.  
  5. Remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
  6.  
  7. Remove 6 bolts securing the water pump. Remove the water pump.
  8.  
  9. Remove the oil pressure switch. Discard the sealing washer.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 4 bolts hold the oil filter head. Remove the oil filter head and discard the 2 O-rings.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Ensure the oil filter head adapter is clean.
  2.  
  3. Install the filter head and tighten the bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (13 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Clean the oil filter head and mating face.
  6.  
  7. Install new O-rings to oil filter head and adapter. Install and tighten filter head bolts to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Clean oil pressure switch mating faces. Install new sealing washer and tighten switch to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Clean the water pump and cover mating faces. Install water pump with a new gasket. Tighten water pump bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Clean CMP sensor and tighten the retaining bolt to 6 ft. lbs. (8 Nm).
  14.  
  15. Install the camshaft timing gear cover with a new gasket. Tighten bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (22 Nm), following illustrated sequence.
  16.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil
  4.  
  5. Remove the oil pan.
  6.  
  7. Remove the oil pump sprocket.
  8.  
  9. Remove 2 nuts and 1 bolt attaching oil pump and remove pump. Discard o-rings.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Clean the oil pump mating surface, install new o-rings and lubricate with clean engine oil.
  2.  
  3. Install the oil pump and tighten the fasteners.
  4.  
  5. Install the oil pump sprocket and tighten the nut.
    NOTE
    The oil pump chain is adjusted by turning the Allen bolt spacer. The spacer is accessed through the oil pump securing bolt hole.

  6.  
  7. Adjust the oil pump chain by turning the Allen bolt spacer until the chain deflection is 0.314-0.470 inch (8-12 mm).
  8.  
  9. Install the oil pan.
  10.  
  11. Fill the engine with oil.
  12.  
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  14.
