Axle Housing


Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    Before beginning, depressurize the air suspension.

  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Brake pads
    Caliper (tie it out of the way)
    ABS sensors
    Brake hoses from the knuckles
    Drag link from the knuckle
    Panhard rod from the axle
    Sway bar
    Track rod
    Axle oil
    Height sensors
    Breather hose

  5. Support the axle
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Air spring retaining clips
    Air springs from the axle
    Shock absorbers from the axle
    Radius arms-to-chassis nuts

  9. Move the axle forward and release the radius arms from the chassis brackets.
  11. Remove the axle/radius arms assembly.
  13. Remove the radius arms from the axle.

To install:

  1. Clean all mating surfaces.
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Radius arms to the axle. Torque the nuts to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).
    Axle into position. Locate the radius arms, with bushings, into the chassis brackets. Tighten the nuts to 118 ft. lbs. (160 Nm).
    Shock absorbers. Torque the nuts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
    Air springs
    Air spring retaining pins and bolts. Torque the bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
    Breather hose
    Height sensors
    Driveshaft. Torque the nuts to 35 ft. lbs. (48 Nm).
    Track rod. Torque the nuts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
    Sway bar
    Panhard rod. Torque the bolt to 148 ft. lbs. (200 Nm).
    Drag link. Torque the nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
    ABS sensors, coated with silicone grease
    Brake hoses
    Calipers. Torque the bolts to 162 ft. lbs. (220 Nm).
    Brake pads
    Axle fluid
