Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Before beginning, depressurize the air suspension.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Drive hub
     
    Axle shaft
     
    Track rod from the swivel hub
     
    Drag link from the swivel hub
     
    Swivel hub. Use a forcing tool, such as the one illustrated. If the joint pin turns in its socket, use a 6mm Allen wrench to hold it.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New adjusting collar into the hub. Install the collar until a 4mm gap exists between the shoulder of the collar and the top of the hub.
     
    Hub onto the axle. Install the upper nut, only. Torque the nut to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).

  3. Clean the seal surface in the axle.
  4.  
  5. Turn the clamp screw of tool LRT-54-006/1 fully counterclockwise. Make sure that the clamp toggle rotates freely. Position the tool in the axle with theTOP
  6.  
  7. Make sure that the tool is located squarely on the sealing surface. Use a plastic or brass mallet to tap the end of the screw. This will ensure that the tool is properly positioned.
  8.  
  9. Install and tighten the lower nut, until the ball stud is squarely seated in the joint but the collar can still turn. Adjust the height of the collar until the tool is a slide-fit in the hub.
  10.  
  11. Remove the tool. Tighten the collar 114
  12.  
  13. Install or connect the following:

    Drag link. Torque the nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Track rod. Torque the nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Axle shaft
     
    Drive hub

CAUTION

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New adjusting collar into the hub. Install the collar until a 4mm gap exists between the shoulder of the collar and the top of the hub.
     
    Hub onto the axle. Install the upper nut, only. Torque the nut to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).

  3. Clean the seal surface in the axle.

  5. Turn the clamp screw of tool LRT-54-006/1 fully counterclockwise. Make sure that the clamp toggle rotates freely. Position the tool in the axle with the TOP mark upwards.
  6.  
  7. Make sure that the tool is located squarely on the sealing surface. Use a plastic or brass mallet to tap the end of the screw. This will ensure that the tool is properly positioned.
  8.  
  9. Install and tighten the lower nut, until the ball stud is squarely seated in the joint but the collar can still turn. Adjust the height of the collar until the tool is a slide-fit in the hub.
  10.  
  11. Remove the tool. Tighten the collar 1 1 / 4 turn while tightening the lower nut to 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm). The hub should turn smoothly and evenly. If not, repeat the assembly procedure.
  12.  
  13. Install or connect the following:

    Drag link. Torque the nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Track rod. Torque the nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Axle shaft
     
    Drive hub
