  4.
  5. Remove the wheel.
  6.
  7. To remove right side shock absorber, remove the coolant reservoir.
  8.
  9. Support the weight of the axle with a jack.
  10.
  11. Loosen the upper bolt securing the shock to the tower.
  12.
  13. Remove the 4 nuts securing the shock tower to the chassis.
  14.
  15. Remove the 2 lower shock absorber bolts.
  16.
  17. On ACE equipped models, remove the ACE pipe clamp bolt and clamp.
  18.
  19. Raise the tower and remove the upper bolt.
  20.
  21. Compress the shock and remove the assembly.
  22.
  23. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

Lower shock bolts: 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).

Tower to chassis nuts: 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).

Upper bolt: 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).

CAUTION
Be sure to support the axle when the shock is removed, otherwise the pressurized air spring could fail and cause component damage and possible personal injury. It is possible to remove the shock absorber without depressurizing air springs, BUT the distance between the axle and chassis must be held as if the shock absorber was still fitted. This is achieved by supporting the vehicle on supports, with a jack under the axle.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.
  5. Support the front axle on a jack.
  6.
  7. Remove front wheel.
    WARNING
Do not lower axle when shock absorber is removed. This may result in air spring damage.

  8.
  9. Remove the lower shock absorber retaining nut.
  10.
  11. Remove the upper shock absorber retaining bolt.
  12.
  13. Remove the shock absorber.
  14.

To install:

  1. Install the shock absorber.
  2.
  3. Install the upper mounting bolt and tighten to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm).
  4.
  5. Install the lower mounting bolt and tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  6.
  7. Install the front wheel and tighten the lug nuts to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
  8.
  9. Remove the jack supporting the axle.
  10.
  11. Remove the supports and lower vehicle.
