Evacuating the System

WARNING
Servicing must only be carried out by personnel familiar with both the vehicle system and the charging and testing equipment. All operations must be carried out in a well ventilated area away from open flame and heat sources.

  1. Remove dust caps from high and low pressure connectors.
  2.  
  3. Connect high and low pressure hoses to appropriate connections.
  4.  
  5. Open valves on connectors.
  6.  
  7. Turn valves on refrigerant station to correct positions.
  8.  
  9. Turn Process switch to correct position.
  10.  
  11. Turn Main switch to 'ON'.
  12.  
  13. Allow station to evacuate system.
  14.  
  15. Recharging
    NOTE
    When recharging, always make allowance for refrigerant in the line between the charging station and the vehicle. This is calculated at 30 grams/meter of charging line. System charge weights are as follows:

  17. Discovery:

    Front A/C system only - 700 ± 25 grams (24.5 ± 0.8 ounces)
     
    Up to 03 MY - Front/Rear A/C system - 900 ± 25 grams (31.5 ± 0.8 ounces)
     
    From 03 MY - Front/Rear A/C system - 780 ± 25 grams (28.0 ± 0.8 ounces)

  19. Close valves on refrigerant station.
  20.  
  21. Close valve on oil charger.
  22.  
  23. Disconnect yellow hose from refrigerant station.
  24.  
  25. Remove lid from oil charger.
  26.  
  27. Pour same quantity of refrigerant oil into oil charger as collected during recovery. If the following components have been renewed, add the following additional quantity of lubricating oil:

  29. Freelander:

    A/C system charge = 405-455 grams

  31. Discovery:

    Condenser = 40 cm3
     
    Evaporator = 40 cm3
     
    Pipe or hose = 5 cm3/metre
     
    Receiver/dryer = 15 cm3.

  33. Fit lid to oil charger.
  34.  
  35. Connect yellow hose to refrigerant station.
  36.  
  37. Open valve on oil charger.
  38.  
  39. Move pointer on refrigerant gauge to mark position of refrigerant charge quantity.
  40.  
  41. Slowly open correct valve on refrigerant station and allow vacuum to pull refrigerant into system.
  42.  
  43. Close valve on refrigerant station when correct amount of refrigerant has been drawn into air conditioning system.

  45. Turn Main switch to 'OFF'.
  46.  
  47. Close valves on connectors.
  48.  
  49. Disconnect high and low pressure hoses from connectors.
  50.  
  51. Fit dust caps to connectors.
