Lower Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise rear of vehicle.
  4.  

Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

  1. Remove road wheel.
  2.  
  3. Remove nut and bolt securing trailing link to hub.
  4.  
  5. Remove bolt securing trailing link to bracket.
  6.  
  7. Remove trailing link.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Fit trailing link.
  2.  
  3. Fit bolt to bracket, but do not tighten at this stage.
  4.  
  5. Align trailing link to hub, fit nut and bolt, but do not tighten at this stage.
  6.  
  7. Support weight of vehicle with jack under rear hub.
  8.  

Nuts and bolts must be tightened with weight of vehicle on suspension.

  1. Tighten nuts and bolts to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Fit road wheel(s) and tighten nuts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Remove stands and lower vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Check and if necessary adjust rear wheel alignment.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  5. Remove road wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove nut and bolt securing trailing link to hub.
  8.  
  9. Remove bolt securing trailing link to bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove trailing link.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Fit trailing link.
  2.  
  3. Fit bolt to bracket, but do not tighten at this stage.
  4.  
  5. Align trailing link to hub, fit nut and bolt, but do not tighten at this stage.
  6.  
  7. Support weight of vehicle with jack under rear hub.
    CAUTION
    Nuts and bolts must be tightened with weight of vehicle on suspension.

  8.  
  9. Tighten nuts and bolts to 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Fit road wheel(s) and tighten nuts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Remove stands and lower vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Check and if necessary adjust rear wheel alignment.
  16.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support vehicle chassis with safety stands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower sway bar link.
  6.  
  7. Remove the height sensor link from the lower arm.
  8.  
  9. Depressurize the air suspension system.
  10.  
  11. Remove the damper-to-lower arm bolt and disconnect the damper.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolt attaching the air spring to the lower arm.
  14.  
  15. Remove and discard the lower arm-to-hub bolt.
  16.  
  17. Loosen 2 bolts attaching the lower arm to the sub-frame.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the air spring spigot from the lower arm.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 2 bolts attaching the lower arm to the hub and remove the lower arm.
  22.  

To install:

  1. Clean the lower arm and pivot and sub-frame mating surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Position the lower arm, install the new bolts, but do not tighten.
  4.  
  5. Fit the air spring to the lower arm and tighten the bolt.
  6.  
  7. Align the damper to the lower arm and tighten the bolt to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Tighten the lower arm-to-sub-frame bolts to 121 ft. lbs. (165 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Pressurize the air suspension system.
  12.  
  13. Install the height sensor link.
  14.  
  15. Install the sway bar link.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18.
