Relieving Fuel System Pressure

The fuel injection system operates under high pressure. This makes it necessary to first relieve the system of pressure before servicing. The pressurized fuel, when released, may ignite or cause personal injury.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the power to the fuel pump by removing the relay or the fuel pump fuse. Check the list on the fuse box lid to be sure. The fuse can be removed to stop the fuel pump from running. With the engine operating at idle, wait until the engine stalls from fuel starvation.

  5. Switch the ignition OFF and remove the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Carefully loosen the fuel line on the control pressure regulator or component to be serviced.
  8.  
  9. Wrap a clean rag around the connection, while loosening, to catch any fuel.
  10.  
  11. After service is complete, discard the fuel soaked rag in the proper manner and reconnect negative battery cable, relay or fuses.

  5. Remove acoustic cover.
  6.  
  7. If coil is obstructing access to Schrader valve, unbolt coil and position aside.
  8.  
  9. Remove Schrader valve cap.
  10.  
  11. Position absorbent cloth around fuel feed pipe connection to collect spillage.
    WARNING
    The spilling of fuel is unavoidable during this operation. Ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent fire and explosion.

  13. Connect adapter LRT-19-006 to Schrader valve.
  14.  
  15. Position opposite end of adapter LRT-19-006 into container, turn tap to release pressure.
  16.  
  17. Remove adapter LRT-19-006 from Schrader valve.
  18.  
  19. Fit cap to Schrader valve.
  20.  
  21. Install coil to mounting, if removed.
  22.  
  23. Fit acoustic cover.

  7. Observe all instructions for using TestBook.

  9. When service is complete, ensure all fuel connections are properly restored and all fuel spillage is thoroughly cleaned before starting vehicle.

  7. Remove cap from Schraeder valve on fuel rail.

  11. Connect adapter LRT-19-006 to Schrader valve.

  13. Position opposite end of adapter LRT-19-006 into container, turn tap to release pressure.

  15. Remove adapter LRT-19-006 from Schrader valve.
  16.  
  17. Fit cap to Schrader valve.
  18.  
  19. Install coil to mounting, if removed.

  21. Fit acoustic cover.
