Fig. Here-s how you reach the starter mounting bolts

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right side transmission sound shield.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the wiring from the solenoid.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 starter mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the mounting bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  12.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove battery carrier.
  4.  
  5. Release starter motor solenoid terminal cover, remove nut securing battery lead to solenoid and disconnect battery lead.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect connector from starter solenoid.
  8.  
  9. Remove 3 bolts securing starter motor to gearbox noting that the left-hand bolt also secures the mounting bracket for the CKP sensor connector.
  10.  
  11. Maneuver and remove starter motor.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Clean starter motor and mating face on gearbox.
  2.  
  3. Position starter motor to gearbox, align CKP sensor multiplug bracket, install and tighten bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect battery lead to solenoid terminal, install nut and tighten to 9.5 ft. lbs. (13 Nm). Secure terminal cover.
  6.  
  7. Connect connector to starter solenoid.
  8.  
  9. Install battery carrier.
  10.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right side transmission sound shield.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the wiring from the solenoid.
  8.  
  9. Remove the 2 starter mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the mounting bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the battery cover, then disconnect the ground cable.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on safety stands.
  6.  
  7. Remove the 3 nuts holding the exhaust flange to the front pipe. Disconnect the pipe and collect the gasket.
  8.  
  9. Remove the heat shield from the engine mounting bracket.
  10.  
  11. Remove the battery lead from the starter solenoid.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the starter solenoid connector.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 2 Allen bolts and remove the starter.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Clean the starter and engine block mating faces.
  2.  
  3. Install the starter and tighten the Allen bolts to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Reattach the connector to the starter solenoid.
  6.  
  7. Connect the battery lead to the solenoid and tighten the nut.
  8.  
  9. Position the heat shield over the starter motor, locating the tag in the engine mounting bracket. Install and tighten the bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Clean the exhaust manifold and front pipe mating faces. Install a new gasket and tighten nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
  16.  
  17. Install the battery cover and attachments.
  18.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air intake plenum.
  6.  
  7. Raise and support the front of the vehicle on safety stands.
  8.  
  9. On the intake manifold, remove the terminal post cover, post nut and disconnect the 2 cables.
  10.  
  11. Remove the right side exhaust manifold.
  12.  
  13. Remove the heat shield.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 2 bolts and move the starter enough to disconnect the electrical connectors.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the starter breather pipe.
  18.  
  19. Remove the starter.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Clean the starter and engine block mating faces.
  2.  
  3. Connect the breather pipe.
  4.  
  5. Position the starter enough to connect the electrical leads.
  6.  
  7. Install the starter and tighten the bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the heat shield.
  10.  
  11. Install the right exhaust manifold.
  12.  
  13. Connect the 2 cables to the intake manifold.
  14.  
  15. Install the air intake plenum.
  16.  
  17. Lower the vehicle and connect the negative battery cable.
