Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the instrument panel silencer from the passenger side of the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the glove box from the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the blower motor wire harness connector from the blower motor power module or resistor , depending on how equipped.
  8.  
  9. Remove the three screws that secure the blower motor to the HVAC housing .
  10.  
  11. Remove the blower motor from the HVAC housing.

To install:

  1. Position the blower motor into the HVAC housing.
  2.  
  3. Install the three screws that secure the blower motor to the HVAC housing. Tighten the screws to 20 inch lbs. (2.2 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the wire harness connector to the blower motor power module or resistor, depending on how equipped.
  6.  
  7. Install the glove box into the instrument panel.
  8.  
  9. Install the instrument panel silencer onto the passenger side of the instrument panel.
  10.  
  11. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  12.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove heater to foot duct No. 1.
  8.  
  9. Remove the blower assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove air refiner element.
  12.  
  13. Remove the clamp and cowl wire No. 2.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 3 screws and recirculation damper servo sub-assy.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the connectors, remove the 2 clamps and instrument panel No. 3 wire.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 2 screws and blower motor control.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 3 screws and blower motor (blower with fan motor sub-assy).
  22.  

To install:

  1. Install blower motor and tighten the 3 screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the blower motor control and tighten the 2 screws.
  4.  
  5. Install instrument panel No. 3 wire and 2 clamps. Engage the connectors.
  6.  
  7. Install recirculation damper servo sub-assy and 3 screws.
  8.  
  9. Install cowl wire No. 2 and clamp.
  10.  
  11. Install air refiner element.
  12.  
  13. Install the blower assembly.
  14.  
  15. Install heater to foot duct No. 1.
  16.  
  17. Install the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly.
  18.  
  19. Connect the negative battery cable.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the instrument panel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air duct (duct side) as follows:


    1. Disconnect the connector and connector clamp.
    2.  
    3. Remove the screw.
    4.  
    5. Release the 2 claws and pull out the air duct.
    6.  

  8.  
  9. Disconnect the wire harness connectors and clamps going to the blower motor.

  11. Remove the blower unit as follows:


    1. Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.
    2.  
    3. Remove the bolt, screw and nut.
    4.  
    5. Release the claw and remove the blower unit.
    6.

  13. Remove the 3 screws and the air inlet servo motor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 3 screws and the blower motor.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the blower motor onto the blower unit and tighten the 3 screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the air inlet servo motor onto the blower unit and tighten the 3 screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the blower unit as follows:


    1. Place the blower unit into position and engage the claw.
    2.  
    3. Install the bolt, screw and nut.
    4.  
    5. Install the bracket and the 2 bolts.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Connect the wire harness connectors and clamps going to the blower motor.
  8.  
  9. Install the air duct (duct side) as follows:


    1. Install the air duct and engage the 2 claws.
    2.  
    3. Install the screw.
    4.  
    5. Install the clamp and connect the connector.
    6.  

  10.  
  11. Install the instrument panel.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Discharge the A/C system.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait 90 seconds before doing any further work while the airbag system de-energizes.
  6.  
  7. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  8.  
  9. Remove the instrument panel assembly.
  10.  
  11. Remove the air conditioner unit assembly. See HEATER CORE Removal & Installation procedure in this section.
  12.  
  13. Remove the blower assembly as follows:


    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2.  
    3. Remove the screw.
    4.  
    5. Release the 2 claws and remove the blower assembly.
    6.

  15. Remove the inlet control servo motor as follows:


    1. Detach the claw and remove the lever.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 screws and inlet control servo motor.

  17. Remove the 3 screws and the blower motor.
  18.  

To install:

  1. Install the blower motor to the blower unit assembly and tighten the 3 screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the inlet control servo motor as follows:


    1. Install the inlet control servo motor with the 2 screws.
    2.  
    3. Attach the claw and install the lever.
    4.  

  4.  
  5. Install the blower assembly as follows:


    1. Install the blower assembly with the 2 claws and screw. Tighten the screw to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
    2.  
    3. Connect the connector.
    4.  

  6.  
  7. Install the air conditioner unit assembly. See HEATER CORE Removal & Installation procedure in this section.
  8.  
  9. Install the instrument panel assembly.
  10.  
  11. Refill the cooling system.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  
  15. Evacuate, charge and leak test the air conditioning system refrigerant.
  16.  
  17. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
  18.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait 90 seconds before doing any further work while the airbag system de-energizes.
  4.  
  5. Remove the right front door scuff plate.
  6.  
  7. Remove the right cowl side trim.

  9. Remove the No.2 under cover.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the blower motor connector.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 3 screws and blower motor.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the blower motor and tighten the 3 screws.
  2.  
  3. Connect the blower motor connector.
  4.  
  5. Install the No.2 under cover.
  6.  
  7. Install the right cowl side trim.
  8.  
  9. Install the right front door scuff plate.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait 90 seconds before doing any further work while the airbag system de-energizes.
  4.  
  5. Remove the left front door scuff plate.
  6.  
  7. Remove the left front pillar garnish.

  9. Remove the right side instrument panel under cover sub-assembly as follows:


    1. Disengage the 4 clips and the 2 claws and remove the right instrument panel under cover sub-assy.
    2.  
    3. Disconnect the connector.
    4.  

  10.  
  11. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips and remove the right side instrument panel garnish sub-assy.
    NOTE
    Use a screwdriver if a moulding remover is not available. Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

  13. Remove the glove compartment plate.
  14.  
  15. Disengage the 6 claws and remove the glove compartment hole cover.
  16.  
  17. Remove the glove compartment door assembly with instrument panel airbag assembly lower No. 2 as follows:


    1. Remove the 3 bolts and the 3 screws.
    2.  
    3. Disengage the clip in the upper right corner and remove the glove compartment door assembly with instrument panel airbag assy lower No.2.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the connectors.
    6.

  19. Remove the air suspension and headlight beam level control ECU by first disconnecting the connectors, then removing the 2 nuts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the blower unit assembly as follows:


    1. Disconnect the connectors.
    2.  
    3. Remove the nut and 3 bolts.
    4.  
    5. Remove the blower assy.
    6.

  23. Remove the 3 screws and the air inlet servo motor.
  24.  
  25. Remove the 3 screws and blower motor assy (cooling unit motor sub-assy w/fan).
  26.  

To install:

  1. Install the blower motor assy (cooling unit motor sub-assy w/fan) and tighten the 3 screws.
  2.  
  3. Install the air inlet servo motor and tighten the 3 screws.
  4.  
  5. Install the blower unit assembly as follows:


    1. Install the blower assembly into position on the blower unit.
    2.  
    3. Install the nut and 3 bolts.
    4.  
    5. Connect the connectors.
    6.  

  6.  
  7. Install the air suspension and headlight beam level control ECU.
  8.  
  9. Install the glove compartment door assembly with instrument panel airbag assembly lower No. 2.
  10.  
  11. Install the glove compartment hole cover and engage the 6 claws.
  12.  
  13. Install the glove compartment plate.
  14.  
  15. Install the right side instrument panel garnish sub-assy.
  16.  
  17. Install the right side instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.
  18.  
  19. Install the left front pillar garnish.
  20.  
  21. Install the left front door scuff plate.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.
