WARNING
Hot, pressurized coolant can cause injury by scalding. Cooling system must be partially drained before removing the coolant temperature sensor.

The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor is located on the top front area of the engine.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any other work.
  4.
  5. To access the ECT sensor, it may be necessary to remove the intake manifold, throttle body assembly, or only the intake air connector pipe.
  6.
  7. Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
  8.
  9. Using a deep socket, remove the sensor from the top of the engine.
  10.
  11. Remove the gasket from the sensor.
  12.
  13. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  14.
  15. Tighten the ECT sensor to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
