  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any other work.
  4.
  5. Remove the front wheel.
  6.
  7. Separate the front speed sensor.
  8.
  9. Separate the front disc brake caliper assembly.
  10.
  11. Remove the front brake rotor.
  12.
  13. Using SST 09930-00010 and a hammer, release the staked part of the front axle hub nut and remove. Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the halfshaft may be damaged.
  14.
  15. Separate the front lower ball joint assembly.
  16.
  17. Separate the tie rod assembly.
  18.
  19. Using a plastic hammer, separate the front axle assembly from the halfshaft assembly. Be careful not to damage the halfshaft boot, dust cover and oil seal
    NOTE
Be careful not to drop the halfshaft assembly.

  20.
  21. Using SST 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040), remove the left front halfshaft assembly.
  22.
  23. Using water pump pliers, remove the bearing bracket hole snap ring.
  24.
  25. Remove the bolt and right front halfshaft assembly from the halfshaft bearing bracket.
  26.
  27. Inspect the halfshaft as follows:

    1. Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.
    2.
    3. Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.
    4.
    5. Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.
    6.
    7. Check the boot for damage.
    8.

  28.

To install:

  1. Install the left front halfshaft assembly as follows:

  2.
  3. Coat the spline of the inboard joint shaft assembly with gear oil.
  4.

    NOTE
It is possible to determine if the inboard joint shaft is properly engaged (the shaft is in contact with the pinion shaft, and the snap ring is engaged in the pinion gear) based on the sound or feeling when the shaft is driven in.

  8.
  9. Install the right front halfshaft assembly as follows:

  10.
  11. Coat the spline of the inboard joint shaft assembly with gear oil.
  12.
  13. Install the halfshaft assembly.
  14.
  15. Using water pump pliers, install a new bearing bracket hole snap ring.
  16.
  17. Install a new bolt and tighten it to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
  18.
  19. Install the front halfshaft assembly to the front axle assembly. Be careful not to damage the halfshaft boot.
  20.
  21. Install the tie rod assembly.
  22.
  23. Install the front lower ball joint assembly.
  24.
  25. Install the front brake rotor.
  26.
  27. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly.

  29. Using a socket wrench (30mm), install a new axle hub nut and tighten it to 217 ft. lbs. (294 Nm).
  30.
  31. Using a chisel and hammer, stake the front axle hub nut.
  32.
  33. Install the front speed sensor.
  34.
  35. Install the front wheel.
  36.
  37. Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment.
