Removal & Installation

The fuel filter/pressure regulator is mounted to the body above the rear axle and near the front of the fuel tank.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Fuel supply, return and pressure lines
     
    Mounting bolts
     
    Fuel filter/pressure regulator
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter/pressure regulator to the body. Torque the bolts to 30 inch lbs. (3 Nm).
     
    Fuel pressure, return and supply lines
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
  4.  

The fuel filter on the ES 300 is located under the hood, on the driver's side, by the fenderwell.

The fuel filter LS 430 is located under the vehicle on the left side before the rear axle. The fuel filter on the GS 300 and GS 430is located under the vehicle, next to the left rear exhaust resonator.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any other work.
  4.  
  5. On the GS 300, remove the rear body protector.
  6.  
  7. Slowly loosen the lower flare nut fitting until all the pressure is relieved and all the fuel is collected.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the union bolt on the upper portion of the filter and remove the banjo fitting and 2 metal gaskets. Discard the gaskets.
  10.  
  11. Loosen the fuel filter bracket bolt, remove the fuel line with the flared nut from the filter and pull the filter from the mounting bracket.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    A new fuel filter to the vehicle and tighten the bracket bolt
     
    Banjo fitting with a new metal gasket on each side
     
    Union bolt. Tighten the union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

    Flare nut to the lower connection. Tighten the flare nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

  3. On the GS 300, install the body protector.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle if raised.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drain pan and/or rags and connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and visually inspect the upper and lower connections for leaks.
  10.  

The fuel filter on the ES300 is located under the hood, on the driver's side, by the fenderwell. The SC300 fuel filter is located under the vehicle, on the driver's side, in front of the rear axle.

The fuel filter for the LS400 and SC400 is located under the vehicle on the left side before the rear axle. The fuel filter on the GS300 and GS400 is located under the vehicle, next to the left rear exhaust resonator.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable. Wait at least 90 seconds before performing any other work.
     
    On the GS300, he rear body protector
     

  4.  
  5. Slowly loosen the lower flare nut fitting until all the pressure is relieved and all the fuel is collected.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the union bolt on the upper portion of the filter and remove the banjo fitting and 2 metal gaskets. Discard the gaskets.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the fuel filter bracket bolt, remove the fuel line with the flared nut from the filter and pull the filter from the mounting bracket.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    A new fuel filter to the vehicle and tighten the bracket bolt.
     
    Banjo fitting with a new metal gasket on each side
     
    Union bolt. Tighten the union bolt to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

    Flare nut to the lower connection. Tighten the flare nut to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

  3. On the GS300, install the body protector.
  4.  
  5. Lower the vehicle if raised.
  6.  
  7. Remove the drain pan and/or rags and connect the negative battery cable.
  8.  
  9. Start the engine and visually inspect the upper and lower connections for leaks.

The fuel filter on the ES 300 is located under the hood, on the driver's side, by the fenderwell.

The fuel filter on the LS 400 and 2001-04 LS 430 is located under the vehicle on the left side before the rear axle.

The fuel filter for ES 330, IS 250/IS 350, IS 300, and 2005-06 LS 430 models are in integral component of the in-tank fuel pump assembly. Refer to the Fuel Pump Removal procedure.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
