Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, please familiarize yourself with safety procedures.
  2.
  3. Drain 2 / 3 of the brake fluid from the front reservoir. Use the bleeder screw at the front outlet port to drain the fluid. If equipped with anti-lock brakes, relieve the system pressure.
  4.
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  6.
  7. Remove the wheels.
  8.
  9. Insert a small prybar through the caliper opening and pry the caliper (using the outboard brake pad) to bottom the piston in the caliper bore.
    NOTE
This will back the brake pads off of the rotor surface to facilitate the removal and installation of the caliper assembly.

  10.
  11. Pry the caliper support spring out of the caliper.
  12.
  13. Remove both caliper slide pin bushing caps and slide pins.
  14.
  15. Lift the caliper from the anchor.
  16.
  17. Using a piece of mechanics wire, support the caliper so there is not tension on the brake hose.
  18.
  19. Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
  20.

To install:

  1. Position the brake pads onto the caliper.
  2.
  3. Position the caliper into place on the anchor.
  4.
  5. Coat the caliper slide pins with silicone grease and torque them to 21-30 ft. lbs. (29-41 Nm). Install the slide pin bushing caps.
  6.
  7. Install the caliper support spring in the top of the caliper under the anchor; then, install the other end into the lower caliper hole.
    NOTE
Hold the spring in the caliper hole with your thumb while prying the spring end out and under the anchor.

  8.
  9. Fill the master cylinder with fluid and bleed the brake system.
  10.
  11. Before driving the vehicle, pump the brakes several times to seat the pads.
  12.
  13. Install the wheels.
  14.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.
  3. Remove the rear wheels.
  4.
  5. Hold the sliding pin on the lower mounting bolt and remove the bolt. Swivel the caliper upward and out of the way.
  6.
  7. Remove the brake pads and retainers.
  8.

To install:

  1. Install the pad support plates and the pad wear indicator plate on the inside pad.
  2.
  3. Install both pads with the wear indicator plates facing downward.
  4.
  5. Compress the caliper pistons and install the caliper.
  6.
  7. Hold the sliding pin and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  8.
  9. Install the rear wheels.
  10.
  11. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir.
  12.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels

    Lower installation bolt

Caliper and suspend it securely. Do NOT disconnect the fluid line.

    Brake pads and retainers

  4.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

2 pads so that the wear indicator plate is facing upward. Do NOT allow oil or grease to get in the rubbing face.

  2.
  3. Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the brake reservoir. Press in the caliper piston with a suitable tool.

Caliper. Torque the sliding main pin to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).

    Wheels

  4.
  5. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and add as necessary.
  6.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels

    Pin hold clip

2 pad guide pins and anti-squeal spring

Both brake pads with anti-squeal shims (remove the 4 anti-squeal shims from each pad)

  4.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Compress the caliper pistons

Both brake pads with anti-squeal shims (apply disc brake grease to both sides of the 2 anti-squeal shims)

2 pad guide pins and anti-squeal springs (apply disc brake grease to both sides of the 2 anti-squeal springs)

    Pin hold clip

    Wheels

  2.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

    Clip and guide pin

    Disc pads

4 anti-squeal shims from each pad

  4.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE
Make sure that the arrows on the anti-squeal shims face the direction of wheel rotation.

Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims
